With season 17 of Grey's Anatomy set to air in the next couple of months, fans have begun preparing themselves by binge-watching all the others. No one can wait until to see their favorite surgeons in action again.

But while they wait, a lot of fans have also taken to the internet to talk about their best and least favorite moments. Surprisingly, there were quite a few unpopular opinions that caused quite a stir among the fandom. Here are just a few comments that may get the blood boiling.

Mark And Lexie's Romance Was Weird

As many fans know, there have been some epic and memorable romances. There was Meredith and Derek, Jackson and April, Owen and Cristina, and Ben and Bailey. Most people would have said Mark and Lexie belonged on the list too. However, it turns out that there were quite a few people who weren't on board with this 'ship.

If someone scours through the Reddit forums, there have been a few who felt uncomfortable with the age gap. Others have said that they wouldn't have lasted long term because they were too immature and childish. It's just a shame that they died before this theory could have been put to the test.

The Show Is Better Now Derek Is Dead

Derek Grey's Anatomy

Back in season 11, the Grey's fandom was devastated to discover that their favorite neurosurgeon had passed away after being involved in a car crash. For eleven years, the fans had been invested in Derek, his relationship with Meredith, and his other storylines. To this day, there are fans still mourning his exit.

However, there are also a few people who are actually glad that he died and believe the show has got better since. They love the fact that it gave other characters time to develop and allowed them to see Meredith grow as a person individually. After all, Meredith has achieved a lot in the last six years.

Izzie Was A Better Partner To Alex Than He Was To Her

Izzie and Alex on Grey's Anatomy

Whether fans love or hate them, there's no denying that Alex and Izzie had a whirlwind of a romance. There was a break-up, a cheating scandal, her cancer battle, and a marriage. They even got back together after being apart for 10 years. However, by this point, the couple ended up losing the respect of fans after Izzie up and left him, leaving behind a 'Dear John' letter.

Still, some people may be surprised to learn that some users of Reddit actually believe that Izzie deserved much more than Alex because he was a terrible partner. There will be a lot of debate surrounding this opinion.

Sydney Heron Was Likable And Didn't Deserve Hate

Over the last sixteen years, fans have seen many characters arrive and leave Grey-Sloan. One character that seemed to have miraculously disappeared from the screens was perky surgical resident Sydney Heron, who was last seen in season 4. The viewers didn't really miss her much because she hardly bonded with the other surgeons and was very off-putting.

However, over the last few years, there have been a few Sydney supporters who have defended the character. One Reddit user even made the case that the disrespect MAGIC and the other residents showed her was cruel and unjustified. It would be nice to get an update for these supporters.

M.A.J.A.C. Is Better Than M.A.G.I.C.

Throughout the seasons, the fans have also seen several resident classes arrive at Grey-Sloan to complete their course. There was Jo's group, Bailey and Callie's group, Levi and Helm's group, and Lexie's. However, for the majority of fans, the consensus was that MAGIC was the dream team. Turns out this is not completely accurate.

According to one user on Reddit, team MAJAC was far superior to MAGIC. They believe that April and Jackson brought more to the show than George and Izzie. It was from season 6 onwards that they believe viewers saw the biggest character developments - both physically and professionally.

Mark Sloan Was A Pig

Out of all the characters that have died on the show, Mark's death was one that hit people the hardest. After watching him transform from a serial womanizer to a devoted family man, the plastic surgeon managed to capture the hearts of fans. When Mark died shortly after Lexie, a lot of fans were an emotional wreck.

However, there is a small minority of fans who actually didn't really care about his death. In fact, there is one Reddit user that goes as far as to say they don't understand he gets so much love because he was a "pig." Ouch.

Alex's Exit Was Really Plausible

Meredith and Jo in Grey's Anatomy letters

As fans know, they were forced to say farewell to another favorite character in season 16 after Alex Karev decided to move to Kansas after discovering Izzie had given birth to his children. Chambers final episode received a negative reaction from the fans, particularly as they discovered that Alex told Jo he was leaving via a "Dear John" letter.

While many people thought this exit had undermined all his character growth, there was a small minority that was thrilled to learn he had reunited with Izzie. In fact, some said that Alex's exit was "really plausible." The hardcore Alex fans will probably be divided over this.

Callie And Arizona Were The Show's Most Toxic Couple

Callie and Arizona standing at their wedding altar in Grey's Anatomy

From season 5 to 11, fans had the pleasure of watching the rollercoaster of a relationship that was Arizona and Callie. They watched as they fell in love, got married, and had a child. The viewers also saw them go through a lot of tragedy, a cheating scandal as well as a divorce. Nevertheless, the writers delighted Calzona fans when they implied they were reuniting in New York.

However, some people aren't exactly satisfied with this ending, as they believe their relationship was "toxic and had no redeeming qualities." They didn't like the fact that they always argued over whether to have kids or focus on their careers. Season 9 through 12 was also a taxing time as fans saw their newfound friendship become strained. Maybe it was better if they dated other people?

Jackson Grand Gesture To April Was Not Romantic

Jackson and April kiss in Grey's Anatomy

Back in season 10, the writers were seen to delight Japril fans across the globe when the two characters finally confessed their love for one another. They thought it was quite brave and romantic of Jackson to put it all on the line, going as far as to propose to April. It was all they ever wanted since their romance started in season 9.

However, while fans swoon at the romantic gesture, there are also some who actually hate "the runaway bride" moment. Not only was it unfair on Stephanie and Matthew, but it shows how little they cared and respected them. Not to mention how the hasty decision to get married caused more problems itself. As one Reddit user said, "It is not the romantic gesture everyone thinks it is."

Meredith Was Worse To Derek Than He Was To Her

Ever since Patrick Dempsey left in season 11, fans have had enough time to rewatch and reflect on the great love story that was Meredith and Derek. After a third watch, most fans have concluded that this relationship was toxic and that Meredith deserved so much better than being an afterthought to the neurosurgeon's career.

However, Reddit has shown there is still one or two Derek fans left, who have raised the point that Meredith wasn't the innocent party either. They have pointed out that Meredith had almost destroyed Derek's career when she messed with the Alzheimer's trial, nearly cost them Zola when she kidnapped her, and messed him around with her commitment issues. Although Derek was no saint, they do put up a reasonable argument over why Meredith isn't either.
