Of the nine episodes in season 1, four of them have earned an 8.3/10 rating. The one with the highest number of votes, however, is episode three.

Derek and Meredith are put to the test when a female rape victim is admitted to Seattle Grace. Later, Meredith and George discover a severe medical issue with a newborn. When a fellow intern ignores their discovery, Meredith risks her job to do the right thing. Burke and Derek bicker over who deserves to be Chief of Surgery. Meanwhile, Izzie helps a Chinese national whose daughter needs medical treatment.

Worst - "If Tomorrow Never Comes" - Episode 6 (8.2/10)

The interns of Seattle Grace must come together to treat a massive tumor found on a new female patient. Alex befriends the patient, but when he makes a snide remark behind her back, she opts to be relocated.

When Derek elects Meredith to help treat a patient with Parkinson's Disease, Bailey becomes jealous. Knowing of their affair, Bailey tells Meredith to end her relationship with Derek. However, the most dramatic moment comes when Alex's beeper runs out of batteries, forcing Izzie to conduct a serious operation by herself. All the while, Burke and Christina's relationship becomes more complicated.

Best - "Shake Your Groove Thing" - Episode 5 (8.3/10)

A planned party turns into an epic debacle when Izzie chooses business over pleasure. How could she?

Instead of attending a party for the introduction of her boyfriend, Izzie opts to perform brain surgery. As a result, Izzie is dumped on the spot. Meanwhile, Meredith makes a grave mistake during a bypass surgery that lands her in hot water with her superiors. Romantically, the temperature rises when Burke and Christina have sex in a doctors' mess. During the party, Bailey witnesses Derek and Meredith becoming intimate in Meredith's vehicle.

Worst - "Winning A Battle, Losing A War" - Episode 3 (8.2/10)

Episode three kicks off with an illegal bike race that results in a patient's admittance. After crashing, a man referred to as John Doe suffers severe brain damage. When Izzie finally contacts the man's family, the interns are happy to learn that he qualifies for organ donation. However, Christina becomes way too happy over the prospect of the man dying so that she can harvest his organs.

On a lighter note, George is repeatedly hit on by a patient who happens to be Dr. Webber's friend. As this occurs, Meredith deals with George and Izzie moving in.

Best - "The Self-Destruct Button" - Episode 7 (8.3/10)

A lot transpires in this episode. First, Derek and Meredith take their relationship to the next level by sleeping together at her house. When they show up to work looking worse for wear, their naughty secret is discovered by their coworkers. Bailey advises Meredith to break up with Derek.

Meanwhile, Alex nurses a sadomasochist who enjoys harming himself. George believes a doctor is drinking alcohol while on duty. But the real drama comes when Christina succumbs to flu-like symptoms, only to learn that she is pregnant.

Worst - "Save Me" - Episode 8 (8.2/10)

It appears fans weren't too keen on McDreamy giving Meredith the cold shoulder. Can't blame them, can you?

The episode commences with Meredith attempting to get closer with Derek, who tends to play hard to get. They take out their frustrations by arguing over how to treat a man nearing paralysis. Elsewhere, Alex nurses a Jewish patient who is averse to medical treatment that goes against his religion. Also, Christina fails to convince a pregnant cancer patient to have an abortion. Izzie becomes fascinated with a patient with psychic abilities.

Best - "A Hard Day's Night" - Episode 1 (8.4/10)

If the finale is the gold winner, it only makes sense that the premiere takes the silver!

Indeed, the inaugural chapter of the hit series is among the most adored episodes of season 1. The grand introduction to all the principal characters and now familiar setting does everything a premiere should. It establishes the main players, sets the tone, and informs what is to be expected with subsequent episodes. The new interns, including Alex, Christina, George, Izzie, and Meredith are called for their first shift.

Worst - "No Man's Land" - Episode 4 (8.1/10)

When Izzie nurses a patient who recognizes her from a modeling photo-shoot, he declines her treatment. Worse yet, Alex plays a joke on Izzie by spreading the photo around the hospital. Meanwhile, Derek and Meredith nurse a construction worker who survived a workplace accident that left several nails in his head. While he survived, the doctors must break the difficult news to the man's wife that he may continue suffering. As this happens, Christina takes a new case involving a retired nurse.

Best - "Who's Zooming Who" - Episode 9 (8.7/10)

It probably comes as no surprise to see the finale as the top-ranked episode of season 1. But since when have STDs become so popular?

In the episode, George discovers he's contracted syphilis. Soon, the STD begins to circulate among the staff at Seattle Grace. While the doctors figure out who's sleeping with who, Christina and Izzie conduct an ill-advised autopsy on a patient. As Derek and Meredith grow closer, Burke nurses his old college friend with a medical issue that sheds light on his wife's infidelity.
