Thanks to the romantic stories, medical cases, and twists and turns, Grey's Anatomy is a show that can be watched over and over again. Watching this show is definitely not a peaceful and calm experience, as there are many big moments and tragedies, from doctors almost dying in ferry boat accidents to couples breaking up. It's never clear who is going to get a happy ending and who is going to be the victim of bad luck, and that includes patients and doctors alike.

Now that the season 17 finale has aired, it's the perfect time to look back on some of the most memorable moments from Grey's Anatomy. There are several scenes that make fans feel totally nervous and emotional when watching them again.

Meredith Almost Drowning

Meredith has had several near-death experiences on Grey's Anatomy and in the third-season episode, "Walk On Water," Meredith helped a businessman who was hurt. They were standing next to the pier, and at the end of the episode, he began freaking out and accidentally pushed her into the water.

This was terrifying to watch, as except for a little girl, there was nobody around to see the dire state that Meredith was in. Watching Derek take Meredith out of the water is a nerve-wracking scene as she had been under the water for quite some time.

Meredith Had Her Hand On A Bomb Inside A Patient's Chest

Fans love the season 2 storyline when a patient had a bomb inside of their chest, which was definitely the last thing that the doctors would have anticipated.

It's impossible to watch this scene without feeling super nervous, as even though Meredith survived, fans were scared that it could go off at any moment. This is one of the most intense times that Meredith ever had at the hospital, which is saying a lot since she's in danger on a regular basis.

Addison Showed Up At The Hospital

Meredith and Derek seemed to have everything going for them... until Derek's wife Addison came to the hospital.

In the season 1 finale "Who's Zoomin' Who?" Meredith and Derek were just about to leave the hospital when they were confronted by a woman, who claimed she was with Derek's wife. This was something that no one would see coming and even though Meredith and Derek did end up together, this is still a tough scene to re-watch. This scene is a reminder that while they had an epic love story, they also had several hurdles.

Meredith Told Derek To Choose Her

While Derek did choose Meredith in the end, he was certain that he could make his marriage to Addison work, which is why watching Meredith's "pick me, choose me, love me" speech is nerve-wracking today.

This is a classic scene in Derek and Meredith's relationship, as she put her heart on the line and shared with Derek that she was hopelessly in love with him. Meredith sounded like she was in a romantic comedy, explaining how much she cared about him and how much it impacted her life. Sadly, it didn't end the way Meredith expected as Derek told her he was getting back together with Addison.

Arizona Testifying During Her Custody Case

It was nerve-wracking watching Arizona and Callie fight each other for custody of their daughter Sofia, and things got even trickier when Arizona took the stand and testified. She was asked many questions about raising Sofia, and this was tough for fans to watch, as both Callie's lawyer tried to make Arizona look like an unfit mother, which devastated the pediatric surgeon.

This scene was even tougher to watch when Arizona got a phone call saying that she was needed at the hospital. In the end, Arizona got sole custody. Even though fans know that Arizona moved to NYC at the end of season 14 and is likely back with Callie, this scene is still awkward to watch.

Derek's Death Scene

Derek's death was incredibly tragic as he could tell that the doctors were making mistakes and missing the things that could have saved him.

In the season 11 episode "How To Save A Life," Derek saw a car accident and offered assistance to a young girl named Winnie and her mom, along with the people in the other car. A truck then hit Derek, and when he ended up in the hospital, the doctors messed up and he died. Watching this scene is sad and painful, as everyone knew that this would affect Meredith and Amelia a lot.

Izzie Cut Denny's LVAD Wire

Another nerve-wracking scene is when Izzie made the terrible decision to cut Denny's LVAD wire. Izzie was desperate for Denny to get a heart transplant and since he had to be in much worse shape in order for that to happen, she made this choice. While her plan did seem like it was working, she soon ran into a serious problem. As Burke was about to pick up the organ, he was shot, meaning that Denny's chances of survival were even slimmer.

Fans were on the edge of their seats as Team MAGIC tried to keep it a secret from their superiors and the other attendings. Even though Denny pulls through here, it's tough watching the LVAD scene as viewers can't help but anticipate all of the trauma that Izzie and Denny would go through after that too.

Richard Got Electrocuted

Richard at the hospital on Grey's Anatomy

In the season 9 finale, Richard got electrocuted, which is one of the most intense and wild moments on Grey's Anatomy. It came out of nowhere and since he was in the basement, trying to get the generator working properly again, he feared that no one would find him.

Richard faced tragedy on a regular basis on the show, and every time, it was a reminder of how much Meredith cared about him and felt that he was family. This was a particularly scary scene and it's hard to watch without hoping that he'll be okay, even knowing that Richard did make it through.

This was a bad idea, as Penny was the doctor who had been involved in Derek's case, which eventually led to his death. This was an incredibly awkward scene to watch the first time around and it's hard not to feel nervous when watching it again. Fans sympathized with Meredith here, as no one would want to be put in this horrible situation.

Callie And Arizona's Season 9 Argument

Every Grey's Anatomy season finale tends to end on a dramatic conclusion and the season 9 finale was no different either. With a huge storm causing a power outage in the hospital, tensions were running high between all the surgeons, especially for Arizona and Callie.

As fans know, Arizona cheated on Callie with Lauren after the two grew closer on a case. Callie found out when she noticed Lauren was wearing Arizona's top and when they began arguing, all the problems they had suppressed came to the surface. Fans loved this couple and it was so sad to see them clearly breaking up. It's impossible to watch this scene and not feel super nervous.
