Christmas is approaching and that means gifts, fun, laughs, food, and most importantly, family. The characters of the hit ABC show Grey's Anatomy exemplifies everything that the holiday season is about while not focusing too much on that topic.

Grey Sloan Memorial is a melting pot of romance, health, and personal problems - not only for the patients but the doctors as well. Most would agree that they deserve to forget their responsibilities for one night and take a moment for themselves. But if given a choice on who to invite over for the holidays, who would you extend that invitation to and who would not get one?

Good Guest: Meredith Grey

Meredith on Grey's Anatomy

Meredith must find a way to enjoy herself more than she has over the last few years. For some reason, Meredith is all business with little joy. But still, she receives an invite based on her standing and the kids.

The holidays are a time to rejoice and Meredith's family is in dire need of such. Since the death of Derek, Meredith has thrown herself into the hospital and her work. She needs time to unwind and a family gathering hosted by strangers may just be what she and the kids need.

Terrible Guest: Jackson Avery

Jackson in Grey's Anatomy

Jackson Avery is not a bad guy, but he does have some uneasiness about him. His life is all over the place and his decision-making is not up to par. Would he be nice to have around the family? Yes and no. He's well behaved but he can go into the dark abyss in a blink of an eye.

Seeing Harriet would be a treat for anyone but listening to Jackson complain about his relationship drama is not something people want to hear while opening gifts and telling stories. This year, Jackson has to stay home.

Good Guest: Miranda Bailey

Miranda Bailey stands in front of a white board in Grey's Anatomy

Bailey is like Meredith. They both work hard and deserve a break. Bailey has encountered health problems and even divorced her husband because of her work schedule. On top of fostering a child, grieving for her baby, and being the chief of surgery, Bailey has earned a well-deserved break.

Bailey is not a great joke teller but she is quick with the snappy comebacks and will keep everyone in line if one of the kids begins to act up. Everyone sees her as the mother figure on Grey's Anatomy. There can be no holiday gathering without The Chief.

Terrible Guest: Owen Hunt

Under normal circumstances, Owen Hunt would get an invite over to the house for something like this. Saddled with two kids, Owen, much like Meredith and Bailey, deserves a break. But the problem with Owen is that no one knows which Owen will show up at the door. Will it be daddy Owen or heartbreak Owen?

After what transpired between Owen and Teddy, inviting him over for a celebration with the family may not be the best decision. For a while, it might go smoothly, he has a habit of causing a scene in front of everyone. Owen has to stay home this year.

Good Guest: Amelia Shepherd

Amelia in Grey's Anatomy

Amelia has to be there. No way she can be excluded from a family function. Over the years, Amelia has been taken on a rollercoaster of emotions. Marriage, kids, adoption, a new romance, and who can forget the brain tumor? While struggling to find her place, Amelia came out a better and more fun person.

Sharing the holidays with her would be a blast. In her own right, Amelia could be the life of the party. She's witty, smart, and just as fun to be around now that she has her life on track.

Terrible Guest: Maggie Pierce

Maggie gives an interview at a Seattle radio station about cardiothoracic surgery

Maggie is a tough call. She has that awesome auntie/sister persona going on but other than that, what else could she offer? Starting a new love life, it would be nice for friends and family to meet her new boyfriend. However, who has time to sit and watch a new couple go through the "new love" phase on the couch?

Maggie is ultra-intelligent but can be a bit aloof at the same time. Putting her around a group of people has never been a bright idea. Maybe by next year, she would have morphed into more of a sociable person.

Good Guest: Richard Webber

Richard Webber wearing his scrubs with his hands on his waist in Grey's Anatomy

Richard is another character who has been through the wringer in the last two seasons. Still doing his best with his sobriety, Richard has also had to deal with a failing marriage and an illness that almost halted his storied career.

But he's back now and for that reason alone, Richard deserves a seat at the table. The father figure of Grey's Anatomy has a story to tell to anyone willing to listen.

Terrible Guest: Tom Koracick

Dr. Tom Koracick clashes with Owen over Teddy on Grey's Anatomy.

Tom Koracick has to stay home. He would not be a good guest, especially if you are married. His exploits with Teddy is proof enough of that. While all the blame is not on him, he still knew the consequences and likes to spend the time irritating Owen.

One good thing about Koracick is that he is one of the funnier characters on Grey's Anatomy. But even with those comedic genes, he's still not to be trusted. If he doesn't get his way, he begins to complain and throws a tantrum. That would not sit well for a family celebrating a time when the occasion is supposed to be joyous.

Good Guest: Alex Karev

Alex in Grey's Anatomy

Despite what happened between Alex and Jo, Alex Karev is still a fan favorite. Although he's no longer at Grey Sloan, fans are still finding it hard to let go of his character. Alex would be a great addition to the holiday festivities as a lesson to the younger generation. He had it rough growing up and made a real success of himself.

Then there is the other factor. Meredith needs him there and fans can finally see Alex and his family. He has to bring Izzie and the kids. With his presence, that means no Jo at the gathering.

Terrible Guest: Jo

Jo Smiling at Alex During Wedding

Any other time, Jo Wilson would be a great addition. She knows how to let her hair down and just have fun. However, with Alex there to share in the holiday festivities, there is no way that having Alex and Jo in the same room would be beneficial to anyone.

No matter what side viewers have taken, there is still hostility there. Alex would bring his family and fireworks would begin. Jo is a fun character but there is no need to put her in a situation that would become toxic as soon as Alex walks through the door.
