Harry Shum Jr. is part of the season 19 cast of Grey's Anatomy and will play the character Benson Kwan, who goes by the name Blue. The new interns and doctors who are now working at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital will likely be as memorable as the ones who came before them. Fans still think fondly of the people who are no longer there as so many characters have made a huge impression.
While so many Grey's Anatomy characters will always be beloved, from Meredith Grey's wise best friend Cristina Yang to the prickly yet sweet Alex Karev, there are some minor characters who are harder to recall. They aren't given much screen time or they might not have the same weighty and compelling plotlines as the others.
Susan Grey
There are many sad things about Meredith Grey, including her tragic childhood and difficult relationship with her parents. It's easy to forget that Meredith has a stepmother, Susan Grey, who is married to her father Thatcher. Susan appears briefly on the series in seasons 2 and 3 and while her plotline is emotional, Meredith doesn't focus on Susan as much as she does her mother Ellis.
Susan seems kind enough, as she looks out for Meredith when Ellis passes away and wants to ensure that Meredith is alright. But since Meredith doesn't want to pursue a relationship with her, Susan falls into the background of the series.
Olivia Jankovic
Olivia Harper is a nurse who appears at the beginning of the show. While she does have a significant storyline involving getting an STD, so much has happened that it can be tough to recall specifics.
Olivia leaves the hospital, goes to California, and gets married. She also has a son, Milo. Olivia dates both Alex Karev and George O'Malley and everyone makes fun of her when she gets an STD, which is terrible. While this plotline stands out, there is so much drama in Alex and George's romantic lives that it's hard to remember everything.
Liz Shepherd
Liz Shepherd is Derek's sister who is a doctor, although no details are given about her career, and she appears in a few episodes in season 9 of Grey's Anatomy. While Derek and Amelia have several siblings, it can be tough to remember that since they aren't seen on the show very often.
Liz isn't the most well-developed of the family members who appear on Grey's Anatomy and it doesn't seem like she tries very hard to have a relationship with either Derek or Meredith. Liz could definitely be a bigger part of the hospital drama.
Steve Mostow
Steve Mostow is a resident over several seasons, and when he joins the show, Cristina is in charge. There's a lot that Grey's Anatomy fans miss about interns and also residents, as the series moves at a fast pace and everyone is dealing with life and death surgeries and dramatic personal issues.
With so many interns and residents who don't feel as riveting as the original group, every character can't have storylines that stand out or character traits that make them a lot of fun to watch. Steve isn't quite as compelling as some other characters.
Colin Marlow
It's hard to remember Colin Marlow, especially since he's on the series briefly and then leaves. Colin and Cristina dated for three years prior to her time at the hospital, and when he wants to be Chief of Surgery so he can date Cristina again, she realizes what's actually going on.
Since Cristina has such a long, complicated and emotional romance with Owen Hunt, and since Preston Burke breaks her heart by leaving her on their wedding day, it's tough to think about any of Cristina's former love interests.
Lucy Fields
Lucy Fields is another character who has been forgotten, as she doesn't have a large role on the show and mostly interacts with Alex. Lucy is an OB/GYN and practices neo-natal surgery. Lucy and Alex date and break up because Alex decides not to get a job at a clinic and Lucy wants to work there.
While Alex does date people other than Izzie Stevens and Jo Wilson, it's easy to focus on these two relationships since they are so intense and are given so much screen time. Lucy just isn't very memorable when compared to strong, smart and independent Izzie and Jo.
Amanda
George's Grey's Anatomy quotes make fans nostalgic and his death at the beginning of season 6 is one of the saddest and most memorable moments from the entire series. A bus is heading right for Amanda when George steps in front of her, which results in him being hurt instead and ultimately dying because of his injuries.
Since the focus is on whether or not the other doctors recognize this man in the hospital as George, as there is some confusion, it's easy to forget that Amanda is a big part of this storyline, too and that she has been changed by what has happened as well.
Vincent Orsen
While the focus is always on the main characters on Grey's Anatomy and the professional problems that come up regularly, there are always other doctors and interns around. Often, these characters hang out in the background and aren't that significant. Vincent Orsen is a surgeon in season 2, and while George works with him sometimes, he doesn't have any important plotlines that would make it easy to recall him.
Orsen doesn't stand out from the other doctors as he seems cold and harsh in his brief scenes, but there isn't anything about him that would allow him to be more memorable.
Sadie Harris
Sadie Harris feels like a significant character during her time on the series, but as the seasons pass and Meredith's life becomes more complex, it feels like Sadie has fallen into the background. But unlike some other Grey's Anatomy side characters, Sadie doesn't feel as detailed.
Sadie and Meredith were once best friends, and now things have changed between them as they've gotten older, spent time in their careers, and Meredith has also bonded more with Cristina. Once Sadie leaves the show, she isn't really heard from again.
Molly Grey-Thompson
Molly Grey-Thompson is Lexie Grey's sister and Meredith's half-sister who doesn't have a large role on the show. She's another forgotten character, which makes sense since there are so many people who appear over the drama's almost 19 seasons.
Molly has a terrifying health scare when she is sent to the hospital for a health problem that she has during her pregnancy. Because Molly and Meredith don't bond or have much to do with each other, Molly doesn't become a memorable part of Grey's Anatomy.
