It's been eight years since Callie left Grey's Anatomy and not a day goes that the fans don't miss the orthopedic surgeon. While the fans do love Link and watching his relationship with Amelia, most fans would say that Callie is still the best Ortho god to grace the halls of Grey-Sloan.

Fans are still hoping that Callie will come back from New York one day - even if it is just for a short visit. However, for now, fans will just have to do with rewatching old episodes to get their fill. Who knows, one may learn some new things about the surgeon that they never noticed before.

Callie The Only Orthopedic Surgeon?

One aspect that goes largely unnoticed was the joke about Callie's mentor. A lot of people were confused as to why Callie was always the one called to surgeries. Even in residency, it seemed like Callie was way beyond her years and performing a lot more solo surgeries than the others in her class. There was no sign of her mentor at all.

However, in the season 6 premiere, the writers decided to make a joke of the situation. When Webber refused to give her an attending job, Callie said that she was single-handedly running Dr. Chang's department all year. It's quite funny considering their absence.

Addison Never Attended Her Wedding

Another aspect that goes largely unnoticed is the fact that Addison didn't attend Callie and Arizona's wedding. Considering that Callie and Addison were practically best friends, it was a little strange that Addison wouldn't have come to the wedding or not been invited.

The situation is even weirder when fans consider how Addison didn't even hesitate to rush to her side when her life was in danger. Although it has not been confirmed, it is likely that Kate Walsh couldn't appear due to Private Practice.

Callie Suffered From Glossophobia

One of the more surprising details about Callie was her huge fear of speaking in public. Despite her being one of the most confident characters on the show, fans were surprised to see that she hated speaking in public and giving presentations ("The Time Warp").

It turns out that Callie's fear is an actual social anxiety disorder called glossophobia. It seems that Callie may have gotten over this fear if her excitement over her TED talk is anything to go by ("Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore").

Callie's Sister Never Made An Appearance

Over the ten years Callie was on the show, fans learned a lot about her personal life. Not only were Callie's family extremely wealthy but her parents were very conservative and religious. Fans also learned that Callie had a half-sister called Aria, who disowned her with the rest of their family once Callie revealed her relationship with Arizona.

Since Aria never made an appearance on the show, it is likely that Callie and her sister never reconciled. It is also likely that Aria isn't Carlos's since he called Callie his "only little girl." It would explain a lot since Carlos was a lot more open-minded than Aria and Lucia.

Hidden Details In Callie's Apartment

In all the years that they lived in apartment 502, a lot of fans haven't paid much attention to the surroundings in Callie and Arizona's place. If they did, they would have noticed a few pieces of furniture that had cropped up in the show before.

For instance, the carpet that was on the floor in their living room was originally in Meredith's house (in the living room). The blanket that adorned her bed has been a part of her life since she was a teenager and the pictures littered across the apartment are actually real-life photos of the cast and crew.

Dancing In Underwear Scene

Another hidden detail that has gone largely unnoticed by fans was the symbolism of Callie's dancing in her underwear scene. As many fans know, one of Callie's most iconic scenes was when Webber walked in on her dancing in her underwear. The viewers then saw a parallel of this scene seven years later when she reclaimed her apartment.

However, did fans notice that the two outfits Callie was wearing were quite similar? Some may say that it is purely coincidence, but there seems to be a deeper meaning behind it. It's like the scene is suggesting the reappearance of old Callie - as if she was reclaiming her own identity. Whoever came up with the parallel was actually a genius.

Callie Used Mark's Money To Buy Shares In The Hospital

One aspect that had always confused fans was how Callie managed to get herself a seat on the hospital board. After the traumatic plane crash in the season 8 finale, the survivors decided to sue the airline. While the survivors eventually got their settlement, it did come at the cost of the hospital.

As a result, the Seattle Grace Five decide to buy the hospital. Although Mark had left his $15 million to Sofia, Callie used it to invest in the hospital. As far as everyone knows, Callie still holds her shares so maybe Sofia will end up inheriting it in a decade or two?

Callie's Intelligence

Callie Torres Grey's Anatomy

While many fans would say Lexie, Maggie, or Cristina were the most intelligent surgeons to walk the halls of Grey-Sloan, it seems that everyone counts Callie out. If fans really think about it, Callie was just as smart as the others. She may not have an eidetic memory or graduated from high school but she did prove to be just as academically intelligent.

As many fans remember, Callie had a reputation when it came to studying. Many of the interns wanted her cards when they were studying for their exams. When they were studying for their Boards, the residents expressed their jealousy when they discovered Callie was teaching the Torres method to Meredith. Not to forget the innovative and groundbreaking surgeries she comes up with. Callie was an underrated surgeon.

Her Personalized Scrub Cap

As many fans know, a surgeon's scrub cap holds a lot of significance on the show. Derek's cap had ferry boats and fish, Teddy's has birds, Owen's was army green, Jackson wears Mark's old cap, and Meredith had a purple one - which some believe is representative of the Alzheimer's Association.

Callie also has a personalized scrub cap, which is silver with red arches. The peacock-like pattern is something that Callie seems to like as the viewers would also be able to see this on the cushions littered around the apartment. If fans look up the symbolism around the peacock and what it represents, it does seem to fit Callie's character well.

Meaning Of The Name Calliope

One of the more interesting facts about Callie is the meaning of her name. The Torres family must be huge fans of music as both Callie and her sister are named after musical terms. Aria means "melody" in Italian while Calliope means "beautiful voice" in Greek.

It's quite fitting really when fans remember what a talented singer Sara Ramirez is (as evidenced by "Song Beneath A Song"). Many fans might be unaware of this fact since they had often heard the characters call her Callie.
