HBO Max's animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is now slated to air on Cartoon Network before making its way to the streaming service. Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is a prequel series based on the Gremlins films. The first Gremlins film came out in 1984, and it was backed by a powerhouse of behind-the-scenes talent that included Steven Speilberg as a producer, Chris Columbus as the writer, and Joe Dante directing, which saw the movie become a huge success. Secrets of the Mogwai is set to explore Gizmo's history in China prior to that film.

According to THR, WarnerMedia will be bringing several HBO Max shows to Cartoon Network in cross-platform runs. Beginning in September, Cartoon Network will air "ACME Nights" every Sunday evening, which is said to be a block of family-friendly programming that will include movies and shows. Alongside Gremlins, other HBO Max properties like Aquaman: King of Atlantis and Unicorns: Warriors Eternal will also be airing on Cartoon Network. This new cross-platform release will also see the shows air on Cartoon Network first before making their way to HBO Max in 2022.

Gremlins Secrets of the Mogwai HBO Max series

HBO Max has already shown great faith in the future of the Gremlins series, as with the first season still yet to air, the show has already been renewed for a second season. The show has also put together a stellar cast of voice actors that includes Ming-Na Wen, B.D. Wong, and James Hong. While many details about the show are still forthcoming, it's clear that the series is aimed at younger viewers, so it will likely stray from some of the darker material and humor the original films had. Audiences will finally get to experience Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai when it airs on Cartoon Network later this year.
