Behind-The-Scenes Of 'Green Zone'

A new featurette that takes us behind the scenes of Paul Greengrass' Green Zone has just been released by Universal. If you found the previous trailers too heavy on action and not heavy enough on letting us in on the story, then this featurette will help remedy that. It's basically Greengrass and star Matt Damon talking at different points during the trailer to tell us the type of movie it is, hinting at where the story goes, what their aims for it were and how it compares to the Bourne films they worked on together (me and a lot of other people thought Green Zone looked like "Bourne in Iraq").

In case you don't know or you just want reminding, here's the official synopsis for Green Zone:

During the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Damon) and his team of Army inspectors were dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but stumble instead upon an elaborate cover-up that inverts the purpose of their mission.

Spun by operatives with intersecting agendas, Miller must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil for answers that will either clear a rogue regime or escalate a war in an unstable region. And at this blistering time and in this combustible place, he will find the most elusive weapon of all is the truth.

Now here's the behind-the-scenes featurette which appeared over at But we have it here for ease of viewing, courtesy of First Showing:

Admittedly, the film still looks like "Bourne in Iraq" but with those involved on both sides of the camera, and with the subject matter, is that really a major surprise? And even better of a question - is that really a bad thing? I wouldn't say so. Since we're having to wait (and wait and wait...) for Bourne 4 to come along, at least we'll have Green Zone to somewhat tide us over. I'll certainly be seeing this one opening day.

Green Zone is directed by Greengrass and is written by Brian Helgeland (Robin Hood, L.A. Confidential), based on the book by Rajiv Chandrasekaran. Alongside Damon it co-stars Jason Isaacs, Brendan Gleeson, Greg Kinnear and Amy Ryan. It's set to hit theaters on March 12th, 2010.
