Even superheroes aren’t immune to gossip and the spiciest rumor about Green Lantern shows it. A disputed story about Hal Jordan and a couple members of the Birds of Prey shows that even DC heroes aren’t above scandalous stories that get around.

Beneath all the amazing powers and fancy costumes, the heroes that belong to illustrious groups such as the Justice League are, above all, human. As much as the world may be in peril from threats such as Darkseid or whatever collective of villains Lex Luthor has assembled, heroes still take time to unwind and mingle among themselves. Green Lantern, for example, has a bit of a reputation for getting around with love interests all across the galaxy. From his dalliances with Star Sapphire to fellow members of the Green Lantern Corps, some of Jordan's romantic excursions have landed the hero in some pretty hot water.

In fact, rumors of Green Lantern's tomcatting are so ubiquitous, his own friends have helped spread some of the most outlandish ones. In Justice League: Cry for Justice #2 by Len Wein, James Robinson, and Mauro Cascioli, Green Arrow and Hal Jordan are shooting the breeze when Oliver Queen brings up a spicy rumor. According to Green Arrow via Black Canary, Jordan had been involved in a tryst with the Birds of Prey's Lady Blackhawk and the Huntress. While Green Lantern says nothing of the rumor, it does come back up in Birds of Prey #7 by Gail Simone and Ardian Syaf. After seeing Dove pass out after drinking a single beer, Huntress recalls a time she saw Green Lantern similarly knocked out. While Black Canary tries to pry into the story, Helena readily dismisses the entire thing.

Huntress and Black Canary Rumor DC Comics

So instead of a successful night with two women, it seems the Huntress is implying Green Lantern got drunk, unsuccessfully hit on her and Lady Blackhawk and passed out. Still, such a story gaining legs and spreading throughout the world seems much more fit for a college rather than a community of superheroes. But just because they wear tights and masks doesn't mean that heroes are above gossiping about their friends and allies. One thing fans tend to forget when reading comics is how human even the most powerful characters are at their core. Even though they face off against world-ending threats on a seemingly daily basis, they have flaws just like anyone else. Spreading rumors and indulging in gossip might not seem like a very heroic thing, but when one considers just how bizarre the love lives of the DCU's residents actually is, it's understandable.

Hal Jordan may not have successfully hit on Huntress and Lady Blackhawk, but the fact that a sizeable portion of the DCU thinks he did shows that the greatest heroes are no different than people gathered around a water cooler dishing details on their co-workers. The least Green Lantern could do is try to clear up the rumor going around about him, because it's likely far from the only false bit of gossip spreading in the superhero world.
