The Green Lanterns' optimistic counterparts, the Blue Lantern Corps, have a secret power hidden in their rings. While the interstellar police officers chase the universe's worst criminals around the universe, Saint Walker and his blue-hued corpsmen can heal the threats they come across in the most tear-jerking manner possible.

While the emerald light wielded by the Green Lanterns is by far the most well-known, it's but one of seven main lights that make up the mysterious cosmic force known as the Emotional Spectrum. From the intense Red Light of Rage to the passionate Violet Light of Love, the Emotional Spectrum of Green Lantern covers a wide panoply of feelings felt by sentient beings. Nestled right next to the stable, Green Light center of the Spectrum is the Blue Light of Hope that powers the Blue Lantern Corps, an organization that believes no matter what,  "All will be well."

The Green Lanterns discovered their odd doppelgänger corps at the worst possible time in Green Lantern #36 by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis. The Lanterns are recovering from an attack of animalistic Red Lanterns. Sensing their need for help, Saint Walker, the first Blue Lantern, arrives to assist the wounded. While Hal Jordan and the Green Lanterns are amazed and confused at the existence of multicolored Lanterns, Walker insists that he’s here to help. John Stewart doesn't want to take the risk and attempts to restrain the Blue Lantern, but Saint Walker believes that Stewart is still affected by the Red Lanterns' attack. Walker uses his ring to lock onto John and projects and constructs an image of Katma Tui, John's deceased wife. Walker mentions that, unlike the Green Lanterns' rings, a Blue Lantern ring can conjure up images based on its targets psychosis.

Walker stresses that his construct is not meant to harm but heal. The Blue Lanterns’ powers center around hope, something they genuinely believe can save the universe. While the Green Lanterns exist to establish order, the Blue Lanterns have chosen a more therapeutic way of dealing with the people they come across. By accessing the most painful memories of their targets and giving them a chance to work their way through it, the Blue Lanterns have improved on the Green Lanterns' MO.

The Green Lantern Corps often face difficult challenges in their mission to protect the universe. To help them combat truly heinous villains, the Guardians of the Universe gave their officers Green Lantern Power Rings to generate any sort of weaponry they’d need. But all a weapon does is cause more pain to a likely already-hurting individual. The Blue Lanterns rings can directly target the traumas inflicted on criminals and provide them with a way to come to terms with their biggest tragedies. It isn't just effective, it's non-lethal and ultimately beneficial for everyone. Though the Blue Lanterns aren't as powerful as their Green Lantern allies, they have a way to use their powers for the good of all.
