HBO Max's Green Lantern series is reportedly looking to cast Outlander and Game of Thrones vet Tobias Menzies as Sinestro. While the previous attempt at turning the DC property into live-action form DC, 2011's Green Lantern, didn't wow fans, HBO Max is pressing forward with a new effort. This series hails from executive producer Greg Berlanti and will be overseen by Seth Grahame-Smith. With a story that spans multiple decades and features several Green Lantern characters from the comics, the series promises to be an epic dive into the DC lore fans know and love.

Green Lantern officially scored the greenlight last fall, and news has gradually been trickling out as production draws ever closer. So far, only two cast members have been announced: Finn Wittrock and Jeremy Irvine. Wittrock will portray alpha male Guy Gardner, while War Horse star Irvine will be original Green Lantern Alan Scott. Additional characters confirmed to have roles in Green Lantern include Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and, perhaps the most storied one of all, Thaal Sinestro.

In the case of Sinestro, the series might have found its actor. According to The IlluminerdiTobias Menzies in talks to play Sinestro on Green Lantern. It's said the series will explore the time when Sinestro is still with the Green Lantern Corps., before he turns his back on the organization and becomes the nemesis of Hal Jordan. This is the second time Sinestro has been depicted onscreen, as Mark Strong played the character in the 2011 movie.

Menzies is best known for playing Edmure Tully on Game of Thrones and Prince Philip on The CrownHis dual roles on Outlander as Frank and Jack Randall has proven he is capable of playing complex characters with varied moral compasses. Menzies can handle Sinestro's turn to the dark on Green Lantern; in fact, it could be a great showcase for his talents. However, as HBO Max has yet to comment on the matter, this could be subject to change.

With Green Lantern's cast gradually expanding, production could commence later this year. The series still has several slots to fill, so don't expect things to kick off any time soon. It seems more likely that Green Lantern will make its HBO Max debut next year, perhaps following fellow DC show Peacemaker. Each new bit of casting is an interesting step forward for the project, and fans are undoubtedly excited to see who will be the next name to join the others. Stay tuned for future updates as  Green Lantern continues onward.
