The latest iteration of the Green Lantern Corps gets a brand new name — The Emerald Army — as they prepare to go to battle in DC's Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths. The Green Lanterns have had a tough year on Oa, but veteran Green Lantern John Stewart has ascended to godhood and restarted the Central Power Battery.

The Green Lantern Corps recently suffered great losses after a major explosion and intergalactic crisis destroyed their Central Power Battery. Elsewhere in the universe, fan-favorite Green Lantern John Stewart has grappled with his own path forward, eventually accepting his god-like role and his new title: the Emerald Knight. After Stewart saves Oa and the entire Corps, the latest version of the Green Lantern Corps is now free to protect the DC Universe in the latest Crisis-level event—with a brand new name.

In the final pages of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #2 by Joshua Williamson, Daniel Sampere, Alejandro Sánchez, and Tom Napolitano, Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and Jo Mullein reunite with Kyler Rayner. Hal then reveals his "back-up:" what appears to be much of the Green Lantern Corps, from Guy Gardener to Kilowog. The cover of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #3 shows Hal—with a Justice League constructed by his ring—ready for battle, and the cover's text promises readers "The Battle of the Emerald Army." The issue's summary reads:

Hal Jordan has launched all-out war on Pariah and the Dark Army to avenge his fallen Justice League teammates—but how can one man stand in the way of the Great Darkness? To stop Slade Wilson, the young heroes of the DCU might have no other choice than to turn to the brutal tactics of Black Adam…"

Dark Crisis 3 Cover Featuring Hal Jordan

After the brutal events of the most recent Green Lantern seriesDark Crisis on Infinite Earths #3 promises both a return to form for the Corps as well as a new status quo with the name Emerald Army. This refresh for the Green Lanterns comes in large part due to John Stewart's new role as the Emerald Knight. Though Stewart has yet to make an appearance in the Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths event, this Corps reunion—including Kyle Rayner, who was absent from Oa during the Power Battery explosion and its aftermath—and the upcoming battle certainly marks the start of the Green Lantern franchise's next chapter, which hopefully includes the newly-minted Emerald Knight among the Emerald Army.

One of the hallmarks of a major DC event is the intergalactic intervention of the Green Lanterns, and Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths is no exception. Now, with the introduction of a new name for the Corps, fans can expect a major battle for the Emerald Army in the next issue of this landmark event series. The Green Lantern Corps has typically played a massive role in shaping the events of the DC Universe, and now the Emerald Army's ultimate battle in the pages of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths may mean life or death for the universe's greatest heroes.
