One of the most highly-anticipated films of summer 2011 is Green Lantern. It’s also one of the more dreaded, as a number of die-hard fans are terrified that the little they’ve seen via the Green Lantern trailer – the Ryan Reynolds-ness, the unconvincing CGI – is indicative of the overall quality and tone of the film.
Today, courtesy of Bleeding Cool and Green Lantern #62 by Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke, we get our best look yet at Kilowog, the pig-faced, alien drill sergeant with a heart of gold in the Green Lantern Corps.
If you look closely, you’ll notice there are two Green Lanterns in the larger of the two images. The first is obviously Kilowog, and the second, over Kilowog’s left shoulder, is Bzzd, the wasp-like alien of Sector 2261. In the comics, Bzzd gets a lot of crap for his size, which is probably why he has a tendency to create oversized green energy constructs. Despite his size, though, his willpower – the thing that powers all Green Lantern rings – stacks up with the best of them.

The image is a (slightly) better version of the one we wrote about back in August. This time, though, we get to see the entirety of Kilowog’s massive extraterrestrial body. I still stand by my assessment that his face looks like Outback’s blooming onion, but I suppose that doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
The full-body image is more impressive than the close-up – where, again, the CGI is completely unconvincing – but remember, these images are at least as old as July or August, which means the current quality of the CGI should be several steps upward at least.
What’s your take on the images? Does this Kilowog look like the Kilowog you know and love? Does the CGI impress or underwhelm? Let us know in the comments!
