Batman. Flash. Superman. Even Wonder Woman. All these heroes and many more have the benefit of not just being iconic heroes but having a world-renowned rogues gallery. Of course, most of the DC heroes have a great list of heroes, with Green Lantern being one that gets overlooked largely thanks to the disastrous 2012 movie.

Being around for close to 80 years, Green Lanterns and its subsequent Green Lantern Corps have seen dozens of villains over the years, in comics, movies, and animated form. From simple earthbound baddies to other ring bearers and even cosmic-level adversaries, anyone who holds the name Green Lantern eventually takes on the incredibly powerful foes at some point.

Black Hand

Black Hand battles Sinestro and Hal Jordan

A crazy cool upgrade can't always change a villain. Since the beginning, Black Hand relied on the power of the Green Lanterns, siphoning the bearer's power for his own uses. All that changed when Black Hand became a member of the Black Lanterns.

A group of undead worshippers, Black Hand got some pretty nifty upgrades such as raising the dead. Yet, although being a Black Lantern raised his power level, Black Hand was still seen as a bit of a joke, always trying to escape the shadow of his past.

Manhunters

The Manhunters patrol the Galaxy, looking for threats

Before the Green Lantern's patrolled the galaxy, there were the Manhunters. Created by the Guardians of the Universe, the Manhunters were a race of robots created as a force for good, with their motto being "No man escapes the Manhunters". Naturally, they went rogue.

To no one's surprise, the Manhunters turned against their creators, exiled, and replaced by the Green Lanterns. Even though the Manhunters are really just incredibly intelligent robots, they're also durable and powerful; capable of taking down many of the Green Lanterns before being stopped.

Agent Orange/Larfleeze

Larfleeze, Agent Orange, obsesses over his orange lantern

Funny enough, Agent Orange, one of the weirder Green Lantern characters, could be one of the most powerful villains the Corps ever faced. The codename for the Orange Lantern Corps, Agent Orange is powered by Avarice (or Greed);  this gives the user an immense amount of power and access to former bearers' ghosts, bound to the rings.

Of course, this obsession for everything led to the Corps' demise, and Larfleeze, the only member remaining, went insane and hoarded the rings, making him a joke of a villain although he did capture the entire Corps once.

Hector Hammond

Hector Hammond uses his telepathic abilities on the Green Lantern

While most of the villains the Green Lanterns face-off against are more out of this world, there are plenty who do reside on earth. Hector Hammond is a metahuman with a very large head that fits his powerset a little too well, as Hammond is an incredibly powerful telepath.

From having an obsession with Hal Jordan and battling other Lanterns like Kyle Radner, Hammond's telepathic abilities have constantly made him a foe to be reckoned with. Despite his overly large head, Hammond's not a villain to be taken lightly.

Doctor Polaris

Doctor Polaris dons his costume and unleashes his power

Keeping on the human side of things, beyond Hammond and Black Hand, another non-cosmic villain who consistently pops up to deal with the Green Lanterns: Doctor Polaris. Although many people write Polaris off as being a sort of Magento ripoff, he's actually far more dangerous.

Having a bit more of a Jekyll-and-Hyde persona, Polaris is a dangerous opponent; one minute appearing as Neal Emmerson and the next the dangerous Polaris who uses his powers to control magnetic fields and even allow them to explode, making for quite the villain.

Atrocitus

Atrocitous in Green Lantern comic

In the DC Comics world, colors mean everything. Green represents willpower, violet is love, orange serves as greed, and so on. Obviously, red equals rage and gives way to the Red Lantern Corps led by the brutal Atrocitus.

Given some love in the underrated animated series, Atrocitus is one of the few survivors of a Manhunter attack. Enraged, Atrocitus gives birth to the Red Lantern Corps and wields his rage like a weapon, leveling against any foe to cross his path to oftentimes deadly and disastrous results.

Sinestro

Sinestor sends his yellow lanterns out to the farthest corners of the galaxy

It wouldn't be a Green Lantern-based list without Sinestro getting a mention. A former member of the Green Lantern Corps, Sinestro is an intelligent and brutal ring bearer, oftentimes using his advanced intellect to lead his actions.

Fed up with the hypocrisy of the Guardians, Sinestro turns on his masters and dons a yellow ring, a ring powered by fear. Armed with that, Sinestro forms the Sinestro Corps, cultivating some of the galaxy's most deadly and vile beings to herald fear to all, despite some moments of heroism.

Parallax

Parallax is released onto the world by Sinestro

Now, some fans may have expected to see the name Parallax ranked higher. After all, he's the embodiment of fear, appearing as the lead antagonist in one of the worst DC movies. He serves as the cause for Hal Jordan becoming an enemy of the Corps, granted Sinestro immense power and even possessing a Guardian. However, it could be said Parallax is less of a cosmic entity and more of a demon.

Although he is incredibly powerful, Parallax largely relies on other people to use as meat puppets. Influencing Hal Jordan to go insane after Mongul destroyed Coast City and giving Sinestro an edge, the fear demon is legendary.

Krona

Krona returns to his original form after being depowered

Truthfully, a lot of the names here may elicit some raised eyebrows and Krona is probably going to be one. After all, how many people actually know who Krona is? Not every DC fans know about the scientist who went rogue and proceeded to become an extremely powerful and cosmic-level entity.

After the Anti-Monitor was born, the resulting wave of cosmic power turned Krona into a being of pure energy. Becoming the embodiment of Entropy, Krona went on a cosmic rampage, destroying countless universes before being stopped.

Nekron

Nekron arrives on Earth in Blackest Night

Although the 2012 movie never got a sequel for obvious reasons, it would've been cool to see someone like Nekron make an appearance. Nekron is the figurehead for the Black Lantern Corps, a forgotten sect of Lanterns that uses death as a weapon.

Responsible for instigating the events of Blackest Night, Nekron led to the revival of millions of dead heroes, villains, and otherwise. Even imprisoning the Anti-Monitor in its Black Lantern, Nekron served as one of the most powerful Green Lantern villains in the DC cosmos.
