The Power Ring may be Green Lantern's most valuable tool, but as John Stewart found out, one weapon is capable of giving him a god-level upgrade. When bound to a terrifying creation of the Weaponeers of Qward, the Lantern discovered what true power really was.

As the oldest beings in the DCU, the Guardians of the Universe took it upon themselves to keep the peace in a wild and chaotic cosmos. After a bit of trial and error, they created the Green Lantern Corps, along with the organization's iconic weapon, the Power Ring. With enough willpower and imagination, a Green Lantern's Power Ring can create virtually anything its user can think of. The more adept one is at ring-slinging, the greater and more intricate their constructs can be. As an architect, John Stewart is known for his well-crafted manifestations that go down to the finest of details.

But as great as John is with his Power Ring, he saw what his willpower could do with a powerful and devestating augmentation. In Trinity #23 story "The Easiest Path" by Kurt Busiek and Fabian Nicieza, John Stewart is caught out in space in a dire predicament. In order to keep the Earth safe, the Green Lantern flew to the stars to better understand the powerful alien parasite currently within him. The Void Hound, a powerful creation by the Weaponeers of Qward, is overtaking John’s body and fashioning a suit of armor around him. As John struggles to regain control, the Void Hound senses his willpower and channels it into destroying a swarm of asteroids. As a flabbergasted John wonders what else the Void Hound is capable of, it generates a massive opening in time and space.

Now, when it comes to the Green Lantern’s Power Rings, there are few weapons that exceed them in power. As long as a Green Lantern has a full charge and adequate willpower, the rings are capable of flight, interstellar travel, and of course, construct generation. Power Rings are one of the most coveted items in the DC Universe and some people have literally killed to get their hands on one. However, whatever power the ring is capable of is clearly no match for the destructive potential of the Void Hound.

Even though a Power Ring is nothing to sneeze at, they still have their limits. For instance, they require batteries and, at minimum, a daily charge to prevent failing on their users. Green Lantern Power Rings also come with regulations that even the most willful Corpsmen can’t overcome. The Void Hound has neither of these limits. Add that in with the destructive power that John Stewart bears witness to, and it becomes clear that the Green Lantern's Power Ring simply just looks puny in comparison to the Weaponeers of Qward's Void Hound.
