Warning: contains spoilers for Green Lantern #11!

The newest Green Lantern in the DC Universe, Jo Mullein, is a huge fan of the Flash—and she lets him know it. In Green Lantern #11, the entire Justice League arrives to help the United Planets and the surviving Green Lanterns take down a rogue guardian, and during the course of battle, Jo Mullein is clearly excited to meet the heroes, the Flash especially. The issue is on sale now in print and digital.

Not only is Jo Mullein the newest Green Lantern, she is also one of the most unique. First appearing in 2019’s Green Lantern: Far Sector #1, she was created by acclaimed novelist NK Jemisin and artist Jamal Campbell. Jo was recruited by the Guardians for a mission in a distant corner of the universe; since Jo was travelling outside of the Guardians’ jurisdiction, she was given a special Green Lantern ring, one that did not need a battery to charge. The ring was also kept off of the regular networks other rings were a part of, isolating Jo from the rest of the Corps. When her mission concluded, she returned to the galaxy and found the Corps in disarray, attacked from within by one of their own. Jo rallied the surviving Lanterns to confront the Guardian Koyos and at the conclusion of last issue, the Justice League joined the fray. Green Lantern #11 is written by Geoffrey Thorne, illustrated by Tom Raney and Marco Santuccio, finishes by Maria Laura Sanapo, colored by Mike Atiyeh and lettered by Rob Leigh.

The rogue Guardian Koyos, revealed to be the one behind the Central Battery’s destruction, is making his final move to finish the Corps once and for all. Opposing him are surviving Lanterns Jo Mullein and Simon Baz, joined by Hal Jordan; the United Planets are also on the scene. Finally, the Justice League arrives to help, including the Flash. As he races to help Jo, she asks if he is the Flash. He replies that he is “one of them” to which Jo replies that if they survive, she wants a selfie. Later, as the Flash watches her fight, readers realize that respect is mutual.

It remains to be seen if she will get her chance, as the issue ends with both Koyos and a super-charged Jon Stewart fighting; ultimately both vanish in a flash of light, replaced by a glowing orb hanging in the sky. Jo’s attitude towards meeting the Flash was refreshing, showing both mutual respect as well as admiration. Jo Mullein is relatively new to the superhero game and may still be awestruck by her new colleagues; this is her first time meeting the Justice League. This did not stop her, however, from asking for a selfie with the Flash.

DC history has established that the Flash and Green Lantern will be friends. Jo Mullein, DC’s newest Lantern, is set to keep this tradition alive and well, as seen in Green Lantern #11.
