Hal Jordan & John Stewart Confirmed For Green Lantern Corps

Green Lantern Corps Comic

Warner Bros. confirms Hal Jordan and John Stewart for their upcoming Green Lantern Corps movie. The studio officially kicked off their burgeoning DC Extended Universe with Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice last year - following up on the director's 2013 film, Man of Steel - and followed up with David Ayer's Suicide Squad later that summer and Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman earlier this year. Next up will be to unite their main superheroes - Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) - in Snyder's Justice League later this fall.

Following the highly anticipated team-up movie will be James Wan's Aquaman releasing in December 2018 and David F. Sandberg's Shazam! releasing in April 2019, with Cyborg and Green Lantern Corps following suit in 2020. People have been waiting to hear about Green Lantern (or multiple Lanterns) making their debut at some point in Justice League, though that's not something that has been explicitly confirmed or denied. At this time, the only thing we knew about the upcoming Green Lantern Corps movie has been that it'll release in 2020, and that David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Batman V Superman) has been reportedly hired to write the script. While fans await casting details, it seems like they now know which Lanterns will be featured in the film.

During their Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con this afternoon, Warner Bros. revealed multiple logos for the upcoming DCEU slate as well as showcased all their DC Comics heroes in one massive character lineup image. According to that image, both Hal Jordan (the second Lantern) and John Stewart (the fourth Lantern) will be in Green Lantern Corps.

Green Lantern in Justice League

Aside from whomever the studio selects to direct Green Lantern Corps, the main question on fans' minds is, who will play the Lanterns? Several people have been rumored for the roles over the years, with some having thrown their hats into the ring as well. Armie Hammer has been the most popular name attached to Hal Jordan, though he has repeatedly said that he hasn't been contacted by Warners for the gig. As for John Stewart, some people have lobbied for actors like Idris Elba and Sterling K. Brown to land the highly coveted role, whereas actors like Common and Tyrese Gibson have actively campaigned for the part. In fact, Gibson recently revealed that he's met with the studio multiple times, though he wasn't able to confirm nor deny his involvement with the project.

This year, it seems like Warner Bros. wanted to focus on Justice League, as well as subtly confirm their future DCEU slate. In regards to Green Lantern Corps, people may have to wait until next year's Comic-Con in order to find out who will be playing Hal Jordan and John Stewart, in addition to who will be directing the highly anticipated film.
