Warning: contains spoilers for Green Lantern #4!

In the latest issue of DC Comics' Green Lantern, the Green Lantern Corps is in a state of massive disarray after a horrific attack on Oa, and identifying one villain as the most likely culprit. With the Central Power Battery having been intentionally destroyed on the quantum level, nearly every Green Lantern's power ring has become inoperable, while the Guardians of Oa themselves are locked in a state of perpetual death. As a result, Green Lantern Jo Mullein has stepped in to take command, being one of the few Lanterns left who still has power in her ring.

In prior issues of Green Lantern, it's been revealed that many Lanterns are now stranded across the universe with no way home. Not only that, but the surviving members of the Corps are being hunted down and killed. Meanwhile, there are only three Lanterns left with power in their rings: Hal Jordan, Jo Mullein, and Keli Quintela. However, this is only because each of these specific Lanterns has a ring not intrinsically tied to the Central Power Battery like the average power ring. Now, Green Lantern #4 from Geoffrey Thorne, Tom Raney, and Marco Santucci sees Jo Mullein trying to make sense of why Oa was attacked in the first place, and who's responsible.

United Planets Councillor Fel - a Fifth Level Intellect - discovers that the attack was incredibly intentional and more than just a mere bomb that took out the Central Power Battery. Had that been the case, the Green Lanterns might still have had some charge left in their rings, allowing those out in space at the time to survive the initial attack. Likewise, the Guardians might have been better off than they currently are, seeing as how their state of existence is entangled with the Power Battery itself. Instead, the Power Battery's destruction was the result of it being disassembled on a quantum level. The sophistication of this process significantly whittles down the list of culprits, with the Red Lanterns, the Controllers, the Bright Circle, and the Reach all possibilities. However, there's one suspect that's apparently much more likely than the others: Sinestro.

Green-Lanterns-4-Sinestro

Being the leader of the Yellow Lanterns and a longtime foe of the Green Lantern Corps, it makes sense that Sinestro would be a suspect, though it is somewhat odd given the lack of any major confrontations in recent comics. The Sinestro Corps was even offered a seat on the United Planets, as the diplomatic organization believed his threat had diminished as his Corps' legitimacy had grown. However, things are different now that Oa has been attacked at the same time Sinestro was present on the planet. Perhaps Sinestro had just been biding his time with his fearsome Lanterns, lying in wait until finding the right moment to strike?

While the odds apparently suggest that Sinestro is the one responsible for the attack - and the method of attack would suit the intense hatred he feels for the Guardians - it could still be another foe. However, the stats seem to be good enough for Keli Quintela's Teen Lantern, who shoots off to Sinestro's world in a rage before Jo can even react. Regardless of whether or not the Sinestro Corps are the true culprits, it does look like the severely diminished Green Lanterns will be facing off with the Yellow Lanterns all the same. Sinestro may or may not have been the one who attacked the Green Lantern Corps, but with the slightest provocation, there's little doubt the classic villain will be more than happy to end them for good.
