The Green Knight is now available to watch online in the U.S. and will be coming to the UK soon. The movie joins the latest trend of films playing in theaters and streaming at the same time. The Green Knight follows Sir Gawain, a knight of the Round Table, who must face the title character to complete a yearlong promise. The film was a passion project for David Lowery, who has long wanted to bring the chivalric poem to life.

U.S. fans waited for well over a year for The Green Knight as the film was originally scheduled for a late May 2020 release. But with the pandemic hitting a breaking point the March before, like all other movies, the studio moved the film and rescheduled it for late July 2021. After finally releasing, The Green Knight's better-than-expected box office numbers were welcomed by all involved. As A24's films typically open in less than 3,000 theaters domestically, the studio explored some options to make its films more accessible. Zola, which hit theaters in late June, had itself a one-night streaming event less than a month later. This gave viewers in the U.S. who don't have a local theater playing the film or who prefer to watch at home a chance to check it out.

With the film's positive word of mouth and critical reception, A24 may want more eyes on The Green Knight. The way films are being shown is changing as Black Widow proved box office and streaming can coexist and Warner Bros. continues to release its films simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max. Now that The Green Knight is readily available online, it's open to a wider audience. And after a long wait on the back of its initial cancellation, The Green Knight now also has a UK release date, set for September 24.

How To Watch The Green Knight Online

For one night, viewers were able to stream The Green Knight on Wednesday, August 18 by making an account on the A24 website and then securing their place by purchasing a ticket to watch in a specific time window. However, for anyone who missed this streaming window, The Green Knight is now available to rent online via Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, iTunes, Google Play Movies, Vudu Fandango, Redbox, Microsoft Xbox, AMC On Demand, and YouTube for $19.99. This way, all audiences throughout the U.S. can still enjoy The Green Knight (which is still playing in theaters) from the comfort of their own homes and without time restrictions. The film will also be available to own on Blu-ray and DVD on October 12.

While U.S. audiences have had the opportunity to see the film since the end of July, UK moviegoers have been wondering when the film would finally be out after the film's distributor, Entertainment Film, made the decision to pull The Green Knight weeks ahead of its theater UK release date on August 6. A surge in delta variant cases caused some concern for the distributor, particularly regarding the box office of the film. Despite theaters remaining open in the UK, films like this one typically attract more of a niche audience. Luckily, The Green Knight is finally coming to the UK on September 24 and it's set to get a simultaneous day-and-date theater and streaming release. For those who are comfortable, the film will screen theatrically and will also be available to watch on Amazon Prime Video on the same day.
