David Koepp has been hired to write the script for The Green Hornet and Kato movie that's currently in the works. Green Hornet was created in the 1930s as a classic crimefighting superhero. However, his alter ego is Britt Reid, a newspaper publisher. Green Hornet is joined on missions by his friend, Kato, who drives their car, Black Beauty. Unlike Marvel and DC properties, Green Hornet is owned by Green Hornet, Inc., with the character then licensed out to other companies. There was a well-known Green Hornet TV show in the 1960s, which starred Van Williams as the title hero and Bruce Lee as Kato. More recently, Seth Rogen and Jay Chou led 2011's The Green Hornet movie for Columbia Pictures.

Currently, director Kevin Smith is at work on a new Green Hornet animated series. It was announced over the summer, with Smith sharing some concept art and a script update soon after. On the film side, The Green Hornet and Kato picked up steam earlier this year, when Amasia Entertainment acquired the rights. Shortly after, the company partnered with Universal on the project. However, there have been few updates since then.

Now, The Green Hornet and Kato has taken another promising step forward. Per THR, Koepp will write the script. He's known for his work on Jurassic Park and 2002's Spider-Man, along with dozens of other films. Though details about The Green Hornet and Kato remain scarce, this is a good sign for the movie.

Having Koepp on board means the project is closer to being made than it was before. Though hiring any writer is an important development, Koepp's experience means the script is less likely to need to rewrite, which could move The Green Hornet and Kato along more quickly. His involvement could also help convince bigger names to join the film, with Green Hornet's name recognition helping, too.

Koepp is also just a great fit for the movie. Spider-Man is considered one of the greatest superhero films of all time, so Koepp knows the genre very well. This will be an asset when writing The Green Hornet and Kato. Koepp's hiring should also increase excitement for the movie all around. It's been nearly ten years since Rogen's film came out, and audiences are ready for another adventure with the heroic duo. Hopefully, the announcement about The Green Hornet and Kato's script leads to more developments in the coming months.
