Seth Rogen seems like the kind of guy who would collect movie action figures - not that there's anything wrong with that of course. Well, if he does, he will soon be able to add his own action figure to his collection, as the masked crime-fighter The Green Hornet.
Mezco Toys have announced they are releasing action figures from the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the comic book series and TV show being directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), which is set for a January 14, 2011 opening.
Now, if Green Hornet eventually lives up to the (bad) reputation it has already acquired, you can go out and buy one of the action figures and take your frustration out on it - or possibly use it as a voodoo doll.
Available this November, there is Rogen as Britt Reid in his Green Hornet garb and Jay Chou as the vigilante's trusty sidekick, Kato.
According to Mezco Toys' official website:
"The 12-inch figures feature amazing attention to detail, perfectly capturing both the actors’ likenesses as well as the spirit of the characters."
It was believed Sony executives have been a little less complimentary when it comes to the movie itself. "Too campy" was apparently the view in April, with Gondry's direction seeming off and Rogen simply not right as an action star. Campy superheroes haven't really worked on the big screen - if Batman and Robin and The Spirit are anything to go by.
Rogen also co-wrote the Green Hornet script along with Superbad and Pineapple Express writing partner Evan Goldberg. It was originally slated for a June 25, 2010 opening, but got pushed back into the New Year, as the filmmakers scrambled on to the 3D bandwagon, presumably to try and save Green Hornet from crashing and ultimately bombing.
Comic Book Movie, meanwhile, has gotten their hands on images taken of the teaser poster for the movie, which is on display at the Sony Booth at the 2010 Licensing International Expo in Las Vegas, and features the masked Rogen along with the Hornet's 1965 Chrysler Imperial, known as Black Beauty.
The Green Hornet co-stars Cameron Diaz as Reid's love interest, Lenore 'Casey' Case, Christoph Waltz as the villain of the piece Chudnofsky and Edward James Olmos as Mike Axford, a reporter at the Daily Sentinel, the paper Reid owns.
No word yet if the supporting cast will be getting their own action figures. We'll keep you posted.
