Is comedy series The Green Beret's Guide To The Apocalypse still on the way? The era of streaming services and YouTube has seen to it that pretty much every genre or niche is catered to. This includes survival series or documentaries, with survival shows on Netflix including the likes of Bear Grylls' Man Vs Wild or Doomsday Preppers. Netflix apocalypse shows are also insanely popular and feature hits such as The Walking Dead.

One show hoping to bridge the gap between scripted and unscripted is The Green Beret's Guide To The Apocalypse, created by Shawn Vance and Daril Fannin. Vance is a former Special Forces Green Beret, while Fanin is a former Combat Army medic. Their show is also hosted by Vance, who plays a comic version of himself as he tries to survive through various apocalyptic scenarios, including a nuclear attack, supervolcano eruption or - of course - a zombie attack. Netflix gave the show a straight-to-series order back in 2017, and it added to the expanding Matt Damon filmography of executive producer credits, which includes City On A Hill.

The Green Beret's Guide To The Apocalypse was pitched as a lighthearted comedy that also featured useful survival skills and tips. There have been few updates on the show in recent years, so is it still coming?

Actor/stuntman Jerry Trimble (Supernatural) confirmed in 2018 that production on The Green Beret's Guide To The Apocalypse had wrapped. There was no word on when the show was supposed to debut on Netflix from the platform itself, however, though late 2018/early 2019 seemed like a logical guess.

In the years that followed, next to nothing was heard about the fate of The Green Beret's Guide To The Apocalypse. In late 2020, director Adam Newacheck (Workaholics) shed some light on the production via Reddit, stating that due to red tape at Netflix the show was first put on a backburner before being shelved. He also suggests that some confusion over the show's tone, as it was billed as non-scripted despite clearly having scripted sequences.

Newacheck later uploaded unfinished versions of The Green Beret's Guide To The Apocalypse episodes to his Vimeo account for viewers to see how the show's format worked.

The Green Beret's Guide To The Apocalypse May Never Be Released

Despite The Green Beret's Guide To The Apocalypse seemingly being in a close to finished state, there are no signs of Netflix releasing it. Having sat on the shelf for so long there's probably an issue of it being outdated now, especially in regards to an episode on pandemics.

Shawn Vance and Daril Fannin are currently developing ABC sitcom Adopted with Jimmy Kimmel, so if that show proves to be a success, it might light a fire under The Green Beret's Guide To The Apocalypse. For now, it remains on the shelf.
