Warning! Spoilers ahead for Justice League #60

In the latest issue of DC Comics' Justice LeagueOliver Queen's Green Arrow reveals why Superman is truly the best leader possible. A new threat has come to attack Earth, and the Justice League aren't the only ones investigating solutions for how to take down the new inter-dimensional foe known as Brutus. While Superman's battle with the new threat is its own feat, it's his talks with the League members that proves why he's such a valuable asset to the team.

In Justice League #60 from writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist David Marquez, Black Adam has been making efforts to keep the world safe, a change that Superman has taken notice of. As such, Superman makes a motion to induct Adam into their ranks, which certainly comes as a shock to the rest of the team, particularly Green Arrow. The ironic part is that in the previous issue, Green Arrow was just calling for new blood to be added to the League, believing that their long tenure together has given them all a one-minded perspective, which is potentially preventing them from achieving justice for all. He even recommended that they bring in some differentiated voices to bring in some dissent. However, it seems pretty evident that he didn't quite mean adding someone such as Black Adam, like Superman is now suggesting.

While Green Arrow isn't the only one resisting the idea of bringing in Black Adam into the Justice League, Superman makes his case, and it's not a bad one. According to the Man of Steel, Black Adam has recently shown true acts of heroism, and Clark believes that Adam wants to rise the occasion. Therefore, Superman sees it as the Justice League's responsibility to teach by example and help him do just that as a hero among them. Eventually, the rest of the team agrees, though Green Arrow makes a pretty good point all the same near the end of their debate.

While humorous, Green Arrow's frustration may just have some merit. Superman's typical modus operandi of being so good, pure, and full of hope makes it really hard to argue with him. However, all that goodness doesn't mean he's always right. If the Justice League aren't careful and become complacent, the former villain could easily betray them all if he so desired. While not set in stone, DC's Future State revealed that this exact action (the Justice League expanding) is what led to their downfall due to a betrayal, so there's certainly cause for some concern.

While Superman is perhaps right to give Black Adam a fresh start with the Justice League, the other opinions of his teammates shouldn't be dismissed. Hopefully, the more paranoid and doubtful heroes such as Batman and Green Arrow will be monitoring Adam, at least until he proves himself to be trustworthy enough to be trusted just as much as any other member among their team. Here's hoping Superman is making the right call as Justice League continues from DC Comics.
