WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS up to Green Arrow #38

-

Oliver Queen is going on trial for his life - with only the Green Arrow to help him. That's the milestone revealed in our exclusive preview of Green Arrow #38, the final comic from Rebirth writer Benjamin Percy. After launching the reboot of Oliver Queen back in 2016, it was clear within the first issue that Green Arrow was among the best Rebirth books. He has come a long way since then, but the enemies he fought in his very first issue may have the last laugh, as he begins the trial for murder they perfectly orchestrated.

After months of trying to unite his team of friends and fellow superheroes - Black Canary, Red Arrow, even John Diggle - it seemed things were moving in a better direction for Ollie. Sure, he had murder charges to answer for sooner or later, but all that pales in comparison to shutting down global economic conspiracies, reconnecting with (then being betrayed by) your resurrected mother, and seeing his sister almost killed saving his life.

So yeah... it's been a long year for Oliver Queen. But as fans can see in our preview, he's tackling the trial for his life with a surprising amount of confidence. Knowing Ollie... that might not be a good thing.

Take a look at the preview pages below:

It should probably be taken as a hopeful sign for the future that, after everything to befall him since Rebirth started, Ollie still has a mind for charity. In this case, handing over a bar of gold snatched from the very villains framing him for murder (a bit of Robin Hood generosity befitting a man of his emerald attire). Since this is the finale of Percy's "Tale of Two Cities" arc, these first few pages alone show several story threads coming to a head. In particular, the attempted murder of a key witness by a crooked cop (which Ollie's attorney, Kate Spencer was tasked with cleaning up).

But the past is the past, as Oliver is clearly arguing. Will Kate Spencer take her gold bar and leave Oliver to fight for himself? Will she stick around just in case he needs advice (and take one step closer to her classic vigilante persona, Manhunter)? And most importantly: is it even possible for the entire drama of the Ninth Circle debacle to actually conclude? Percy's writing and Juan Ferrayra's artwork are as 'up to the challenge' as any team currently at DC, so we're betting in their favor.
