A new promotional image for Netflix's The Gray Man teases the upcoming showdown between Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. Best known for directing Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Anthony and Joe Russo return this summer with Netflix's upcoming action film, The Gray Man. Based on the novel of the same name by Mark Greaney, The Gray Man marks one of the streamer's most expensive original films to date, boasting a budget of $200 million.
The film tells the story of skilled CIA asset "Sierra Six" (Gosling) who, after discovering sensitive agency secrets, is forced to go on the run from a host of international assassins and Lloyd Hansen, a psychopathic former colleague. While much remains unknown about the film, Netflix's 2022 movie preview showed off the first footage from The Gray Man, giving audiences a look at both Gosling and Evans and the two characters' rivalry. In addition to Gosling and Evans, The Gray Man also features Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Jessica Henwick, Billy Bob Thornton, and Julia Butters, among others.
In a new cover image for Empire, Gosling and Evans take center stage, teasing the epic conflict that is to come between the two rival CIA operatives. The smoky orange cover features Gosling and Evans wearing what appears to be the same costumes that were seen in the initial clip from The Gray Man in the 2022 Netflix movie preview. While the cover image leaves a lot to the imagination in terms of what type of showdown is in store for fans when The Gray Man does eventually release, Evans, in particular, looks very different from what many fans may be used to. Evans and the Russo brothers previously collaborated on Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, but Evans is sporting a noticeably different look from his Captain America character this time around. With a mustache and a look of intense determination, it seems like Gosling's character will have his work cut out for him in the upcoming film.
As two of the most recognizable actors working today, anticipation is high for the eventual face-off between Gosling and Evans. Both are exceptionally talented actors, and as has been shown off in early footage and promotional material, each of their characters in The Gray Man will be very different in terms of both appearance and demeanor. It remains to be seen how the two characters will fare against each other in the final film, but audiences will find out later this summer, with The Gray Man expected to release in theaters on July 15th and on Netflix on July 22.
