There is no shortage of increasingly weird villains Dipper and Mabel have had to deal with in Gravity Falls, and while the two heroes have been able to defeat all of them, there is one bad guy who apparently didn’t learn his lesson enough at the end of his designated episode as it is revealed that he later suffered a fate worse than death.

Gravity Falls is a kid-friendly paranormal adventure series that follows Dipper and Mabel, twin siblings who were sent to live with their great uncle Stan for the summer at his home in Gravity Falls, Oregon. Before long, Dipper finds a mysterious journal containing facts about mythical beings and secret codes all relating to Gravity Falls. With this journal as their guide, Dipper and Mabel set off on fantastical and sometimes terrifying adventures. During one of these adventures, Dipper and Mabel track down a shadowy organization known as the Society of the Blind Eye which is led by a man named Blind Ivan. The purpose of the Blind Eye Society is to wipe the minds of people who witnessed paranormal activity in the town, but by the end of the episode, the society is disbanded, the members are mind-wiped, and Blind Ivan is sent on his way with a new name and identity, never to harm a living soul again.

Gravity Falls: Lost Legends–written by series creator Alex Hirsch with art by Joe Pitt, Ian Worrel, Asaf Hanuka, Dana Terrace, Jacob Chabot, Jim Campbell, Kyle Smeallie, Meredith Gran, Mike Holmes, Priscilla Tang, Serina Hernandez, Stephanie Ramirez, and Valerie Halla–is a collection of Gravity Falls shorts that weren’t shown over the course of the animated series. In the story titled “Face It”, Dipper and Pacifica (a ‘friend’ of Dipper and Mabel) find themselves in a paranormal black market after chasing a demonic creature who stole Mabel’s face. When Dipper and Pacifica catch up with the demon–who is known as Mr. What’s-His-Face–they find that he has many more faces on his person than just Mabel’s. In fact, one of those faces belongs to a familiar villain: Blind Ivan.

Gravity Falls’ Blind Ivan Got His Memories Erased, then His Face Stolen

Gravity Falls villain suffers horrible fate.

When Dipper and Mabel defeated Blind Ivan in Gravity Falls season 2, episode 7 “Society of the Blind Eye”, his mind was erased by the very device he and his organization was using on others against their will. To add insult to injury, Mabel even wrote the word “Butts” over one of Blind Ivan’s forehead tattoos before stealing his memories–something that is still present on his stolen face in Lost Legends. This means that soon after Blind Ivan’s defeat by the hands of Dipper and Mabel, he was attacked by Mr. What’s-His-Face and had his face was stolen–something that wasn’t undone by the end of the story even after Mr. What’s-His-Face was defeated, implying that Blind Ivan lived out the rest of his days as both a mindless, faceless zombie and as a disembodied face while being unable to understand why due to the previous mind-wiping process.

Even though Blind Ivan wasn’t the best person in his life, as he abducted people and permanently altered their minds against their will, he already paid for his crime in his Gravity Falls episode by having his mind erased–though it seems, in his quest to hide the truth of the paranormal from Gravity Falls, he became a victim of it and suffered a fate worse than death.
