On Jack Kirby's 100th birthday a brand new image featuring Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster and Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnarok has been released. It also features another look at Rachel House's Topaz, bodyguard, and aide to the Grandmaster who has turned Sakaar into his own personal version of the ultimate fighting championship, featuring the greatest warriors that the universe has to offer.
There's plenty to speculate about Sakaar and the origins of the characters on it as well as just how they became connected with the Grandmaster. According to House's interview with Screen Rant, Topaz is the Grandmaster's bodyguard and she and Valkyrie have a rivalry of sorts. Topaz sees the Grandmaster as someone with "all the power" in the universe and that appears ready to cause a rift between the two women. Just where the power play will go remains to be seen, but it will soon be answered along with questions such as: Just how did Topaz and Valkyrie end up on Sakaar? Is there a connection between Topaz and the Grandmaster?
The movie has a lot to do in its short runtime but it's topped social media buzz and has fans very excited, especially with new images coming from Yahoo! Movies. Starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, a.k.a The Hulk, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as the Executioner, and Rachel House as Topaz. After Thor is thrown out of Asgard by the villainous Hela, he is left stranded on the planet Sakaar and forced to take part in the Grandmaster's twisted games.
Ragnarok is bringing a lot to the MCU and it's nice to see that director Taika Waititi is bringing in his own unique sensibilities for what should be a box office smash. House's previous credits include Waititi's Hunt for the Wilderpeople, as well as Disney's Moana. Her turn as Topaz and her rivalry with Thompson's Valkyrie is sure to be a treat for fans of both Waititi and people looking to see more representation on screen.
The end result of her rivalry with Valkyrie, however, sounds ominous. Could the Grandmaster's bodyguards cause untold drama for Thor and his compatriots as they try and find their way home? Fans will have to wait until this November to find out.
