All of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition's main characters were brought together in a hilarious sitcom-esque edit that mimicked the Friends intro. Rockstar recently released Grand Theft Auto – The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition, which featured remastered versions of three beloved GTA games, including Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The remastered trilogy has not been well-received by fans, however, many of whom are convinced the project was incomplete at launch. Major problems with the GTA Trilogy have been pointed out, including its plethora of bugs, lack of polish, and lackluster character models.

While Rockstar promised the GTA Trilogy would be updated with more modern graphics and other improvements, many fans were not happy with what they received at launch. Though the remaster appeared to be in good shape based on its initial trailer, the final product has been deemed too cartoonish and lacking in realism. It was previously suggested that the visual style originally designed for the PlayStation 2 did not translate well to Unreal Engine 4, with character models facing the harshest consequences. Modders, however, have already addressed some of the strange-looking character models. One GTA Trilogy modder fixed Claude and Tommy’s visuals, having modified the remastered versions to look more like their original designs. Despite the weird-looking GTA Trilogy character models, some fans are looking at the bright side of Rockstar’s controversial launch.

Reddit user pepperpopcornz brought all of GTA Trilogy’s main characters together in a hilarious Friends edit, mimicking the sitcom’s intro from the late 90s and early 2000s. Set to the Friends theme song “I’ll Be There For You,” pepperpopcornz’s video begins with the iconic Friends logo, but quickly transitions to a montage of GTA Trilogy scenes introducing the cast of characters from all three games. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City’s Vic Vance and Tommy Vercetti, Grand Theft Auto III’s Claud and Tony Cipriani, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’s Carl Johnson all get introductions in the edit, as does Ken Rosenberg’s trusty companion, Tony the Parrot. In Friends fashion, the last shot showcases all of GTA’s series protagonists together as they dramatically walk together toward the horizon.

While the GTA Trilogy has had its share of controversy, it is worth pointing out that the three remastered games do combine iconic moments from the GTA franchise into one package. Pepperpopcornz’s Friends edit helps showcase the more positive side to Rockstar’s remaster, as it brings together main characters from across the series. Many franchise protagonists dating back to 2002 are finally playable on current-gen consoles, which may certainly hit at player nostalgia.

In its current state, GTA Trilogy is upsetting fans. And despite aiming to fulfill dreams of a definitive GTA game, Rockstar’s recent release seems to do little to truly satisfy fans. Rockstar promised multiple game updates for GTA Trilogy and claimed it would work to improve the game’s performance and graphics. Until then, the controversy surrounding the game continues to grow.
