A new trailer for Gran Turismo reveals more details about the film and its real-world story of a gamer who became a racer. Gran Turismo tells the story of Jann Mardenborough, a GT player who wins a series of gaming competitions that help him become a real race car driver. The film stars Archie Madekwe as Mardenborough and David Harbour as his trainer, Jack Salter.

Now, Sony Pictures has released a Gran Turismo movie trailer, revealing more about Mardenborough's story as portrayed onscreen.

The trailer depicts Mardenborough's transformation from a skilled Gran Turismo gamer to a racer driving on a real track, assisted by Salter's training. The story details in the trailer emphasize the underdog whose dreams of becoming a real race car driver come to life. In addition, a Gran Turismo poster was also released, which can be seen below:

Gran Turismo's Real Life Story Is Perfect For An Adaptation

Gran Turismo is being directed by Neill Blomkamp, best known for sci-fi films such as District 9 and Chappie. It marks Blomkamp's first time directing a film that isn't sci-fi, but will still contain the high-octane energy found in his previous works. Unlike other video game adaptations like The Last of Us or The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Gran Turismo will be adapting a real-life story involving the video game, rather than something set within the fictional world.

The decision to make the Gran Turismo movie about the beginnings of Mardenborough's career means the film can differentiate itself from other video game adaptations. Gran Turismo follows in the footsteps of Tetris, which saw Taron Egerton and Nikita Efremov play real-life game designers who helped bring Tetris to a worldwide audience. Even though it will adapt a real-life story, Gran Turismo will still have the high-octane racing the game franchise is known for.

It will also feature real cars on the racetrack, with Blomkamp previously expressing his desire to make the movie feel as real as possible. This promises the full racing scenes will be just as energized as the trailer is teasing them to be. With Gran Turismo releasing in August, it won't be long until the exciting biographical story promised in the trailer comes to the big screen.
