Key Release Dates

The first Gran Turismo movie images reveal a new look at the intense racing thriller. For the past decade, a feature film adaptation of the wildly successful video game franchise had been trying to get off the ground with different directors attached, though the project finally took off when District 9’s Neill Blomkamp came on board. The Gran Turismo movie cast is led by the Stranger Things and MCU star David Harbour, who is joined by Midsommar's Archie Madekwe.

Now, with the Gran Turismo movie release date coming up this summer, some first-look images have arrived courtesy of Empire. The first image reveals Madekwe as the aspiring teenage driver, Jann Mardenborough, and Harbour as his trainer, Jack Salter. The second image showcases the movie's high-octane racing. Everything We Know About The Gran Turismo Movie

Written by American Sniper's Jason Hall and Creed 3's Zach Baylin, the Gran Turismo movie is based on both the video game series and a true story. The story follows a gifted Gran Turismo player, Jann Mardenborough, who makes the transition from the video game to getting behind the wheel for real as a professional race car driver. Much of the movie's cast is there to support Jann in some way, including Harbour as his trainer, Orlando Bloom as his PR guy, Djimon Hounsou as his father, and Gerri Halliwell (better known as Ginger Spice) as his mother.

When directing the Gran Turismo movie, Blomkamp took the same pioneering approach to stunts as Top Gun Maverick, saying “It’s real actors, in real cars, on real racetracks, driving insanely quickly.” The result is some truly intense and immersive racing which was first showcased in a Gran Turismo movie trailer that provided a sneak peek behind the scenes, and now again in the first-look image above. Replete with thrilling racing, the video game adaptation is primed to make some noise at the summer box office when it races into theaters on August 11.
