A notable data miner has unearthed more information about Sony's upcoming racing sim, Gran Turismo 7, leaking the exclusive title's file size on PlayStation 5 and revealing that it will be smaller than its predecessor GT Sport. Confirmed to be the eighth mainline installment in the long-running racing franchise, Gran Turismo 7 will launch in early March, 5 years after the release of GT Sport on PlayStation 4. Releasing on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the title will set in motion a new visually stunning expansive ride through many new features and next-generation console-specific extras for both long-time fans and newcomers to the series.
Set to officially launch during the series' 25th anniversary, Gran Turismo 7 aims to have a strong emphasis on realism and immersion. The racing simulator includes limited ray tracing technology to produce incredibly realistic lighting effects and reflections and features a dynamic weather system affected by air, temperature, humidity, and road surface that will change how players will race. Like the previous installment in the series GT Sport, Gran Turismo 7 will require an online connection to play in both offline and online modes. This is ostensibly used to dissuade cheaters, but many players have expressed frustration with the feature, believing it will lead to connectivity issues and ruin the whole experience.
Twitter user and notable data miner PlayStation Game Size has revealed the size of Grand Turismo 7, which appears to be slightly smaller than GT Sport. The user claims the title will be almost 90 GB on PlayStation 5 and almost 20 GB smaller than GT Sport which takes up around 110 GBs of space. Compared to GT Sport - which began at 43 GB - this puts Gran Turismo 7 more in line with modern releases, and this will hopefully be corroborated by the games' quality of life upgrades and is expected to pass its predecessor. Pre-loads will begin on February 25 and a pre-patch could enlarge the file size.
Sony and developer Polyphony Digital have promised Gran Turismo 7 will be the series’ biggest game yet, and it certainly is when it comes to file size. GT Sport was the franchise’s previous file size champion, but Gran Turismo 7 blows it away, requiring almost 90 GB of space which is expected to grow over time. While substantial, Gran Turismo 7 however appears to be standard when compared to other recent racing releases, as Microsoft's Forza Horizon 5 is around 110 GB.
Gran Turismo 7's release is right around the corner, and even though Sony hasn't officially confirmed if the mined information is correct, PlayStation Game Size has a good track record. Still, no leaks should be taken as gospel and only time will tell. In the meantime, PlayStation players can begin prepping their systems for the Gran Turismo 7 on February 25, as the long-anticipated racing sim is set to officially release on March 4.
