Through its unprecedented run, the show has featured the main characters in a variety of relationships. Some relationships have only lasted for a couple episodes while others have encompassed multiple seasons or the entire series. These are 5 of the main characters' boyfriends we'd like to date and 5 we wouldn't want to date.

Would Date: Jacob

Jacob is the perfect partner for Frankie. He's  patient, kind, has a great sense of humor, and can adapt to a variety of situations. These are important traits to have in a relationship with Frankie, but they're also traits that work well in any relationship.

Jacob also grows his own food--including yams--and knows how to cook some truly delicious meals. Jacob is a fantastic partner in all respects.

Wouldn't Date: Nick

Nick's exorbitant wealth makes him out of touch. He forbid Grace from accepting a deal from Mark Cuban on Shark Tank, just because he couldn't get over Cuban outbidding his effort to own the Dallas Mavericks. After bragging about tax evasion during every chance he got, Nick went to jail for that very crime.

He doesn't know how to do simple tasks like making breakfast because he's always had someone to do it for him. In general, Nick thinks he can fix everything with money, but life is a lot more complicated than that.

Would Date: Barry

Barry is sweet, intelligent, and delightfully quirky. He's never afraid to be himself and has stood by Brianna's side through thick and thin. Barry helped Brianna confront some of her biggest fears and deepest issues. What Barry cares about most is making Brianna happy and being with her for the long run.

That's why he happily accepted her proposal to be engaged forever. It's not a traditional arrangement, but that doesn't matter as long as he can be with Brianna for the rest of his life.

Wouldn't Date: Principal Dan

Principal Dan had to be escorted out of a restaurant by security after he pummeled a plate of short ribs with his bare hands. Prior to this, he kept correcting the waiter and telling him how to do his job.

If that doesn't say enough about him, he also lied about his interests to Mallory. He pretended to like things like The Joy Luck Club--even though he'd never read it--just so it would seem like he and Mallory had common interests. Moreover, dating a parent of one of his students is an unprofessional move. Between his temper, lies, and unprofessional practices, Principal Dan would be a terrible partner.

Would Date: Jack

Jack and Frankie standing together smiling in a scene from Grace and Frankie.

Jack can get a little crazy when it comes to the contentious divorce with his wife. More importantly, Jack is able to recognize the problematic behavior he exhibits when this topic comes up. He's refreshingly honest with himself, recognizes where he needs to grow, and takes steps to become a better person.

Early on in his relationship with Frankie, he opened up to her, and made strides to be more in control of his feelings. Jack has plenty of positive quirks as well and a wealth of great stories from his days in the music industry.

Wouldn't Date: Guy

Everyone in season 1 kept talking about how handsome Guy is and how he was such a catch. There's nothing particularly bad about Guy, but there's nothing particularly special either. He's not the handsome catch everyone makes him out to be.

Grace ended up breaking up with him because she didn't feel the spark of romance that she deserved. Despite his interesting past as a world traveler and explorer, the Guy who dates Grace is somehow kind of bland and not that exciting.

Would Date: Sol

Sol is a partner who deeply loves others. He brought this love to his romantic relationships with both Robert and Frankie, supporting them however he can and having fun while he does it.

Sol is very much a family man as he's always there for his children. This not only applies to Bud and Coyote, he also treats Brianna and Mallory like his own children and is always happy to listen to their problems and help them find a way forward. Sol has a great sense of humor and is always supportive.

Wouldn't Date: Phil

Phil wanted to leave his wife Elaine so he could be with Grace, but he ended up staying with Elaine after she got Alzheimer's. Years later when Grace reentered his life, she and Phil rekindled their relationship. He cheated on his wife and even left her unattended, during which she had a severe episode.

It's a difficult situation for everyone involved, yet it's still wrong for Phil to treat his wife this way. He made the choice to stay with her and she's relying on him. What would stop him from doing the same thing to Grace in the future if she got Alzheimer's? Phil is stuck in the past with what could've been and unable to own up to the choices he made for himself.

Would Date: Robert

Robert wasn't a good husband to Grace, but he's proven himself a much partner with Sol. He's supportive, faithful, and more willing to talk through problems. When he's able to be open about his identity and pursue his interests like musical theater, Robert is a happier man and a better partner.

He'll be there for his husband, but he's also got his own interests and hobbies that allow there to be balance and space within a relationship. All of this has allowed Robert to be a better version of himself and he's even made amends with Grace.

Wouldn't Date: Leo

Leo is pretentious. When he and Frankie reunited at a retreat, he made a point of telling Frankie how inauthentic she had become. He made Frankie feel like she had to prove that she was still authentic.

Through these efforts, he drove a wedge into Grace and Frankie's relationship. As Frankie tried to reconnect with what really mattered, she lost sight of her relationship with Grace and the business they worked so hard to create and maintain. Leo has an undeserved superiority complex, one that makes a partner feel worse about themselves, which is not at all healthy for a relationship.
