What started in 2015 has led to soon-to-be six seasons and over 30 nominated awards for the cast's hard work. With Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin starring as the show's main characters (Grace and Frankie), we learn a lot of friendship, age, and family.

With season six coming to Netflix in January, we're taking a walk back to examine Grace & Frankie's relationships in the first five seasons. Considering the show started out revolving around the dynamic between Grace and Robert and Sol and Frankie, it's now transpired into even more relationships, lies, and untangled webs. Let's take a look at five couples who make all the sense in the world and couples who never should have happened.

MAKES SENSE: COYOTE & NADIA

We quickly learn in the first season that Frankie and Sol's son, Coyote, has his demons. After battling drug addiction, Coyote is now sober and continues to go to rehab. Luckily, he has the full support of his family and even lived with his brother Bud for a while after rehab.

It was when Coyotes was in rehab that he met a girl with similar addiction issues. The two seemed to really hit it off and had so much in common. From anxiety to pain to their fears... But it appears a relationship was all too much for Nadia and she broke things off with Coyote; which sucks because these two would have been nice together.

MAKES NO SENSE: GRACE & ROBERT

How did Grace and Robert even make sense at one point? They're both so hostile and career-driven that it's shocking they even had some downtime together. But perhaps that's why they were together for decades; they didn't realize how different they were until life slowed down and they were forced to spend more time together.

But by the time Grace was ready to put her all into her relationship, Robert was already giving his all to Sol. It's not surprising these two didn't work out.

MAKES SENSE: BUD & ALLISON

No one in Bud's circle liked Allison when they first started dating. She was a nice, beautiful girl but she also had a lot of health problems. Health problems that she couldn't stop talking about. The only person who saw the true Allison was Bud.

After a few months of lowkey dating and taking things slow, though, the couple learned they were pregnant. They decided to have the baby, create a family of their own, and eventually got married in the fifth season. These two oddballs may seem different but they're actually very in-sync.

MAKES NO SENSE: MALLORY & COYOTE

Grace and Frankie allude to the notion of Mallory and Coyote once having some kind of relationship. Fans aren't sure how serious or relaxed it was, but it's clear the tensions between them were high in the early seasons. We learn that Mallory's ex-husband hated Coyote after he attacked their house in a drug-fueled rage and that now that he's sober, all he wants is Mallory's friendship.

Regardless of what happens between these two in the future, they are far too different to be in a serious relationship. Coyote may be good with kids (she has four) but is he a stable enough figure to be in their lives full-time?

MAKES SENSE: FRANKIE & SOL

Yes, yes, yes. Robert and Sol for the win! Viewers felt awful for Grace and Frankie when they learned their husbands were leaving them for each other after having a 20-year affair. However, once we go to know this fun-loving couple, our tunes changed.

Love is love and you can't help who you love. Sol is the earthy, light-hearted one while Robert is serious but also has a love for theater. These two together make sense and encourage one another's passions.

MAKES NO SENSE: ROBERT & SOL & ROY

Why did this happen? It felt so out of character Robert and Sol to have a fling with a younger third party. It's clear the two were getting the hang of being publicly gay and married but they were confused when it came to third parties.

If they both found another man attractive, couldn't they both enjoy it at the same time? Well, that's exactly what they did and it ended up confusing them and causing slight tension within the family. Roy was gorgeous but Robert and Sol are better as a duo.

MAKES SENSE: GRACE AND NICK

Grace and Nick might be the best couple on this list. She's a little older than Nick but he's loved her from the start. After meeting for business purposes, Nick did everything money could buy him to bring Grace into his life.

Although Grace can be stubborn and self-conscious of her age, Nick loves and embraces her age, experience, wisdom, and beauty. It took Grace a little to get used to a man as passionate and forthcoming as Nick but once she got her feet on the ground, it's been smooth sailing for these two.

MAKES NO SENSE: FRANKIE & JACOB

It was a tough day when these two broke up. It was very brave of Frankie to put her all into a new relationship with someone as compatible as Jacob the yam man, but as soon as the two of them moved to New Mexico, Frankie knew it wasn't going to last.

That being said, if Jacob didn't move to New Mexico to be closer to his kids and stayed in California, Frankie and him would still be together. Then again, maybe that's why the writers wrote him off. This is the story of two best friends, after all.

MAKES SENSE: BRIANNA & BARRY

Like her mother Grace, Brianna is a ball-busting, thick-skinned businesswoman. She's smart, she's savvy, and she likes to work. Working so much, however, has affected her personal life and we saw her feeling lonely. That's when she noticed Barry, her company's accountant. Barry was tall, sweet, smart, and was obviously into her.

The two became serious rather quickly but mellowed out once love scared Brianna away. Thankfully, she came to her senses and these two found their way back into each other's lives.

MAKES NO SENSE: MALLORY & PRINCIPAL DAN

Now that Mallory is a divorced mother of four, she's trying to get a handle on her new life. She's scared but starts going on casual dates, which never seem to end well. That all changes when her kid gets in trouble at school and she's called into the principal's office.

The principal (Dan) is around similar age and good-looking, so the two seemed to hit it off on a personal level. However, dating your kids' principal doesn't sound like the smartest idea. Especially if you're not looking for anything serious. If this relationship ends, it could be awkward for her kids.
