Here are all the cast and characters that will be taking to the streets in Gotham season 5. In May 2018, FOX announced that after five years and four seasons, the Batman prequel series Gotham would be concluding with one final 12-episode run in January 2019.

In an explosive finale, Gotham season 4 ended with Jeremiah Valeska's quasi-Joker setting off a string of explosives and cutting Gotham City off from the outside world. While some citizens were lucky enough to escape the city before it descended into lawlessness, both Jim Gordon and a young Bruce Wayne opted to stay behind and attempt to establish law and order among the various criminal gangs vying for power.

Gotham's final season is set to take inspiration from both the Zero Year and No Man's Land comic stories and a recent season 5 trailer suggested the show will also focus heavily on the emergence of Batman as the city's protector. Additionally, Shane West's Bane will make his debut and many villains will begin to move closer to their classic comic designs.

Gotham Season 5 Heroes

Ben McKenzie as James Gordon - Gotham's protagonist will continue to fight the good fight against all odds in season 5 with only a few allies at hand. A flash-forward scene featuring an older Jim Gordon is rumored to occur this season and fans can probably also expect him to make the jump from Captain to Commissioner at some point.

David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne - Young Master Bruce has been inching towards becoming the Caped Crusader for four whole seasons and viewers will now get to see the final stage of that transformation. Bruce will act as one of Jim Gordon's few allies in the fight for Gotham City.

Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth - Bruce Wayne's faithful butler will soon appear in his own solo series but until then, he'll be helping Bruce fulfill his destiny to become a masked vigilante and helping to protect Gotham City against its assorted criminals with combat skills gained in the British military.

Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock - Gordon and Bullock have had their ups and downs but Harvey is sure to be by Jim's side in Gotham's final season. However, while the future of most Gotham characters is secured by their place in the Batman franchise, Bullock's fate is somewhat less certain.

Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox - Bruce Wayne's other faithful assistant is Wayne Enterprises employee and gadget extraordinaire, Lucius Fox. Expect more tech wizardry and science-based plot exposition from Fox in season 5.

Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins - Last time Gotham viewers saw Lee Thompkins, she had just died in the arms of the equally-dead Edward Nygma. Few people stay deceased in Gotham however, and Penguin took both corpses to Hugo Strange in order for them to be revived.

Gotham Season 5 Villains

Gotham Season 5 Cast Villains

Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot - As one of Gotham's main players, Penguin is sure to have a huge role in the show's final season and photos have already emerged showing the gangster causing havoc. Reportedly, Penguin is set to have a more comic-accurate appearance this season, putting on weight and sporting a brand new costume.

Cory Michael Smith as Riddler/Edward Nygma - Yet another villain brought back to life at the hands of Hugo Strange, Nygma's love/hate relationship with Penguin is set to come to a head in season 5, and the criminal mastermind also has a score to settle with Jim Gordon.

Camren Bicondova as Catwoman/Selina Kyle - Bruce managed to get Selina evacuated from No Man's Land but you can guarantee that's not where she'll stay. The real question is whether Selina will act as a friend or foe to Bruce once she makes her return to Gotham City.

Erin Richards as Barbara Kean - Like Harvey Bullock, Barbara's relative lack of importance to the overall Batman story makes her a prime target for season 5's character hit-list. Actress Erin Richards is also set to direct Gotham's 100th episode, which is written by fellow cast member Ben McKenzie.

Cameron Monaghan as Jeremiah Valeska - Essentially Gotham's Joker, Jeremiah Valeska was responsible for turning the city into a wasteland and will wreak further havoc in the show's final season. Whether or not they'll finally call him by his true name remains to be seen...

Francesca Root-Dodson as Ecco - Jeremiah's assistant Ecco looks to be adopting a distinctly Harley Quinn-esque look in season 5 and is likely as close as Gotham will come to including the infamous femme fatale.

Gotham season 5 also features: Jessica Lucas as Tabitha Galavan, Benedict Samuel as Mad Hatter/Jervis Tetch, David W. Thompson as Scarecrow/Jonathan Crane, Anthony Carrigan as Victor Zsasz, and B. D. Wong as Hugh Strange.

Gotham Season 5's New Characters

Shane West as Bane/Eduardo Dorrance - As one of the few major Batman villains yet to appear in Gotham, the hotly-anticipated arrival of Bane will almost certainly be a highlight of the season. Due to Tom Hardy's muffled voice and Batman & Robin's overall lack of quality, there has yet to be a definitive live-action version of Bane and it'll be fascinating to see whether Shane West can plug that gap.

Jaime Murray as Theresa Walker - British actress Jaime Murray is lined up to play the mysterious Theresa Walker this season. Not a character taken from the DC Comics universe, all fans know about Walker right now is that she's a prime antagonist this season, coming to the city with a dark secret.
