Gotham Season 2 Highlights & Season 3 Trailer

Gotham season 2, also called Rise/Wrath of the Villains, brought about the backstory of some of Gotham City's most notorious villains. Fans saw Detective Gordon walk the line between cop and criminal as he formed necessary alliances in order to navigate the streets of this crime ridden city. No one seems immune to Gotham's dark side, not even its heroes.

Fox released footage from season 3 a few days ago alerting fans that production had begun, and noting that this season is subtitled Heroes Will Fall. The network also teased the addition of The Court of Owls, journalist Valerie Vale (played by Jamie Chung), The Mad Hatter (played by Benedict Samuel), Mario Falcone (played by James Carpinello), and the return of season 1 fan favorite, Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett). If fans thought Gotham was dark before, they're in for even more secrets and villains than seem fair.

With Fish Mooney even more deadly than before, can she make her way back to the top of the food chain, or is there now too much competition for the throne? During the Gotham panel at San Diego Comic Con, Fox released a new sizzle reel with some additional footage of the upcoming third season. Take a look at it above.

Losing Fish at the end of the first season was a major shock to Gotham fans given she was both the main and most developed villain of that debut season. Season 2 deviated from the first in that it was much more of an ensemble instead of being centered around a central big bad. Despite the return of a powerhouse like Fish Mooney, The Court of Owls might be the biggest foe in season 3 for everyone in Gotham, including the rogues.

Known as one of the oldest secret societies in DC lore, The Court of Owls trains its operatives, known as Talons, from a young age, honing their skills until they are highly skilled assassins. "All will be judged" is displayed prominently toward the end of the trailer just before we see Alfred come face to face with one of the Talons from the Court.

However, other than the plethora of new casting announcements, little else is known about the overall plot for Gotham's third season. Actor Corey Michael Smith did mention this season could parallel the Presidential election that will take place in the US this fall. If that is true, fans will will be hard pressed to tell fiction from reality.

Gotham season 3 premieres on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 8pm on FOX.
