While many would argue that it's had lots of ups and downs in terms of quality, Gotham remains one of the highest rated dramas on FOX, and a darling of most critics. Naturally, this fall's premiere of Gotham season 3 carries with it lots of hype and anticipation, as fans prepare to take in the next chapters of Jim Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) quest to clean up Gotham City as well as young Bruce Wayne's (David Mazouz) journey toward becoming the iconic superhero known as Batman.
Gearing up for the season 3 premiere this fall, FOX has announced production on the return to Gotham City through a series of clips.
Production has officially begun on the new season, and FOX has released a quartet of short videos featuring never before seen footage. Check them out below.
Continuing the subtitling theme introduced with season 2's Rise of the Villains and Wrath of the Villains, Gotham season 3 appears to have been dubbed Heroes Will Fall. Whether this subtitle will apply to the whole season or just the first half remains to be seen. Each of the four clips above focuses on one of the principal Gotham characters, those being Gordon, his partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee), and Oswald "The Penguin" Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor). Oddly enough, Bruce himself isn't featured, although one assumes FOX will grant the future caped crusader his own spotlight clip at some point soon.
In addition to Gotham's established residents, season 3 is also set to introduce a round of new characters, including Valerie Vale (Jamie Chung). Aunt of classic Bruce Wayne love interest Vickie Vale, Valerie is a reporter for the Gotham Gazette, and is a new character specifically created for the series. Seeking the truth about what went down at Indian Hill, Valerie goes to Gordon for answers, and the two form an alliance. Whether their relationship will go beyond that is unclear, although Gordon is likely not even close to being done grieving the loss of departed love interest Dr. Leslie Tompkins (Morena Baccarin), who left town following the death of the couple's unborn child.
Also headed to Gotham are Batman comic villains The Court Of Owls, Solomon Grundy, and The Mad Hatter. Little Ivy Pepper is also set to grow up fast, blossoming from the meek tween she was in the first two seasons into a 19-year-old rendition of popular plant-loving seductress Poison Ivy after an encounter with one of Hugo Strange's twisted experiments. Despite all these changes, one thing about Gotham is sure to remain the same: No matter how many threats emerge, heroes like Jim Gordon will never stop fighting for justice.
Gotham season 3 premieres Monday, September 19, 2016 at 8pm on FOX.
