[SPOILERS for the Gotham season 3 premiere ahead.]
Gotham season 3 is shaping up to be one of big changes to the city Batman will one day call home, and the residents unlucky enough to currently be dealing with its many deadly dangers and unethical temptations. Jim Gordon has seemingly left the law behind, taking up a career as a bounty hunter. Intrepid reporter Valerie Vale has arrived in town with designs on exposing the truth behind the Indian Hill conspiracy. The sinister Court of Owls have already made their presence known in a big way, and new villains like Killer Croc and The Mad Hatter wait in the wings for their chance to wreak havoc on the innocent.
Of course, not all the life changes occurring to Gotham mainstays are voluntary, as little Ivy Pepper found herself on the wrong side of Fish Mooney by the end of the season 3 premiere. Why she managed to escape Fish's death sentence, it wasn't without cost, as Ivy was touched by one of Hugo Strange's monstrous experiments. This particular creature comes equipped with the ability to drain one's youth, and sure enough, Ivy's brief encounter results in her rebirth as a 19-year-old vixen much closer to the classical portrayal of plant-based villain Poison Ivy.
To help reintroduce Ivy Pepper to the Gotham audience, Comic Book exclusively debuted the following short video that shines a spotlight on Ivy's transformation from a meek tween (played by Clare Foley) into an adult seductress (now played by Maggie Geha), and the repercussions it will no doubt have on the further evolution of Gotham's Poison Ivy character. Check it out in full above.
While losing years of one's life would normally be considered a huge setback, for Ivy Pepper, it seems that growing up fast may end up being mostly to her benefit. Clearly confused at first by her sudden fast forward through the puberty process, by the end of the above video, it appears that Ivy is beginning to realize just how powerful her adult beauty may truly make her.
Where once previously stood a shy, put-upon child now stands a beautiful, rapidly gaining in confidence woman, and - given her villainous destiny - woe be to those who get cut by the thorns on this blossoming rose. That said, one wonders what this will mean for Ivy's friendship with Selina, especially considering that it was Selina's boss who was trying to have her killed prior to her age-up. Even if Ivy retains her fondness for Selina though, it's not hard to imagine the fiery redhead eventually setting out to repay Fish for her indirect "gift."
Gotham season 3 airs Mondays at 8pm on FOX.
