Season 1 of Fox's DC Comics TV show, Gotham, largely revolved around Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) as he attempted to clean up the Gotham City Police Department and dealt with the city's organized crime problem. However, season 2 has been branded The Rise of the Villains and already introduced the villainous Galavan siblings in its season premiere, ‘Damned If You Do.’
In addition to returning players like Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) and Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith), Theo and Tabitha Galavan (James Frain and Jessica Lucas) will be ushering in a new wave of villains on Gotham. Now, another DC Comics character will be joining the ranks of previously established villains partway through Season 2.
As evidenced in the Gotham premiere, returning villains Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) and Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) were hand-picked by Theo to make up The Maniax - a team made up of the criminally insane that will be a force to be reckoned with this season. Additionally, other villains set to debut in Season 2 include Firefly (Michelle Veintimilla), new character Joe Pike (Leo Fitzpatrick), Clayface and the Mad Hatter.
It's unclear how many details of Flamingo's character from the comics will be included in Castillo's portrayal of the villain on Gotham. The show has largely taken characters from the comics and added slight twists to add new dimensions while staying true to their comic book counterparts. That being said, it's unlikely Flamingo's pink motorcycle will appear on Gotham, though there may be some reference to the character's original design in the costuming of the hitman.
As for how Flamingo will fit into season 2, he'll surely be part of the show's rise of the villains. Given the character's history in the comics, he may be found in Arkham Asylum or, at the very least, may join up with The Maniax since he would likely fit right in. However, he may be introduced as a new player in Gotham, brought to the city by some other reason. Whether Flamingo sticks around for more than episode 9 or if he’ll be a one-off villain, though, remains to be seen.
Gotham returns with ‘Knock, Knock’ next Monday @8pm on FOX.
