Set to release in 2022, Gotham Knights will put players in control of one of Batman's proteges as they attempt to save Gotham from the Court of Owls, but it could also be an opportunity for developer Warner Bros. Games Montréal to introduce the Teen Titans for a potential future game. Gotham Knights will follow the stories of Dick Grayson/Nightwing, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Jason Todd/Red Hood, and Tim Drake/Robin, as they come together to help protect Gotham after the mysterious death of Batman. When the delayed Gotham Knights finally releases, players might need all the help they can get while fighting for Gotham, and the introduction of members of the Teen Titans could fit well into the story, while also providing an opportunity to set up another four-player co-op game starring the Teen Titans if Gotham Knights is successful.

While the Teen Titans are not traditionally set up in Gotham City, they have always been linked to the city through Dick Grayson. Dick Grayson was one of the founding members of the Teen Titans back when he was still serving as Batman's sidekick under the moniker, Robin. While Dick Grayson is no longer Robin in Gotham Knights, he is still one of the four members, now going under the name Nightwing. While it is likely that Nightwing's return to Gotham means he's no longer an active member of the Teen Titans in Gotham Knights, his bond with his former teammates could still be strong enough that they would be willing to come to his aid if things began to get out of control while he battles against the Court of Owls.

The appearance of the Teen Titans in Gotham Knights would not be unprecedented either. In fact, it would somewhat mirror the plot of season 3 of the live-action show Titans, in which Nightwing returns to Gotham in Batman's absence and tries to solve some of the crime that has gotten out of hand, which includes the appearance of the supposedly dead Red Hood. While Nightwing allies himself with other characters that appear in Gotham Knights, such as Barbara Gordon and Tim Drake, he still has the assistance of his fellow Titans teammates. The Titans' involvement in fighting crime in Gotham in Titans could parallel a story in the game, where the Gotham Knights, unable to get help from Batman, call in Dick Grayson's former teammates for help.

How Gotham Knights Could Set Up A Teen Titans Game

An appearance by members of the Teen Titans in Gotham Knights could potentially lead to their own game, featuring a four-player co-op campaign similar to that of Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the latter of which includes Teen Titans favorite, Gizmo, an inventor that first appeared in The New Teen Titans #3 and has gone on to appear in many Teen Titans shows including the 2003 animated series. The Teen Titans are also the perfect team for a co-op game. Assuming that Nightwing has already moved on from the team, the playable characters could include mainstays like Cyborg, Raven, Starfire, and Beast Boy. Unlike the playable characters in Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the Titans' power vary dramatically and could work in tandem with each other to set up interesting combos or solve unique puzzles.

A Teen Titans game that is set in the same universe as Gotham Knights could also help to expand the world and lore of Gotham Knights, which is confirmed to be taking place in a different universe from Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham universe (which Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is also set in). The release of Gotham Knights might still be a way out, but it will be interesting to see if the game includes the Teen Titans in some capacity, or whether it hints at a Teens Titans game that could follow up on the story and universe built in Gotham Knights.
