The CW is officially bringing the Gotham Knights TV show to the air. Originally announced by The CW in December 2021, Gotham Knights' production has wrapped. With a pilot episode ordered in February 2022, The CW officially picked up Gotham Knights in May 2022 and has continued to forge ahead with production even amid the well-publicized troubles of the Arrowverse. As the name implies, the Gotham Knights TV show will be based on a team of Gotham-based heroes, though the most iconic, Batman, isn't included as this takes place after he has passed away.

Interestingly, Gothan Knights draws a parallel with the canceled Batwoman, which focused on the titular hero in the wake of Batman's disappearance. The arrival of the show comes at a time when the Gotham Knights name is popular given the 2022 release of a video game centered around the team. While the game doesn't connect directly to the series, the DC franchise is continuing to expand and the Gotham Knights series is a part of their "Elseworlds" future.

Who Are Gotham Knights In The Comics?

Gotham Knights custom image

In the comics, the Gotham Knights are a team made up of Batman's allies. A stricter and more militant incarnation of the Batman Family, the Gotham Knights has included the likes of Batman, Batwing, Batwoman, Red Robin, Azrael, Cassandra Cain, and Stephanie Brown. The team also once included the villain Clayface. The Gotham Knights TV show, on the other hand, has tweaked its lineup with lesser-known figures than previous iterations. The Gotham Knights TV show will see Turner Hayes, Robin, Bluebird, Cullen Row (Bluebird's brother), Duela, Cluemaster's daughter Stephanie Brown, and Brody March.

Gotham Knights TV Series Cast

Harper Row Bluebird Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights' cast will feature Oscar Morgan (Zero) as Turner Hayes (Bruce Wayne's adopted son), Fallon Smythe (Grown-ish) as Harper Row (Bluebird), Tyler DiChiara (Relish) as Cullen Row, and Olivia Rose Keegan (Days of Our Lives) as Duela. It will also feature Navia Robinson (Raven's Home) as Carrie Kelley (Robin), Anna Lore (Doom Patrol) as Stephanie Brown, and Misha Collins (Supernatural) as Harvey Dent aka Two-Face. In addition, Rahart Adams (Pacific Rim: Uprising) has been cast as Brody March.

While this is the principal cast for the Gotham Knights TV show, other members of the recurring cast are equally important. Since Bruce Wayne's adopted son (not his son Damian Wayne) is in the series, then it's only necessary that Batman himself should be in it too. Bruce Wayne (who is dead in the show) will be played by David Alexander Miller. Damon Dayoub (NCIS) will be taking on the role of Brody's father, Lincoln March. Lauren Stamile (Burn Notice) will be playing Brody's mother, Rebecca March. Ethan Embry (Can't Hardly Wait) will take on the part of Arthur Brown, while Sunny Mabrey (Hillbilly Elegy) will play Crystal Brown.

Gotham Knights Story Details

Bruce Wayne and Turner Hayes

Gotham Knights' story takes place in the aftermath of the death of Batman. Following Turner Haynes, Bruce Wayne's adopted son, the Gotham Knights TV show will see him form an alliance with the children of Batman's enemies after they are framed for Bruce's murder. Turner reveals that people believe he did it to inherit Bruce Wayne's vast fortune, while Duela is also being blamed because she is the Joker's daughter.

The Gotham Knights TV show trailer shows that Robin is seemingly forced to break the rag-tag group out of their holding cell, and it's clear the team will be on the run for most of Gotham Knights season 1. Turner's primary goal is to ultimately track down who killed his adoptive father, in order to clear his and the rest of the group's name — and fighting crime, of course.

Gotham Knights Series Trailer

Gotham Knights TV Show

The first trailer for Gotham Knights on the CW arrived in May 2022. It gave viewers their first look at the live-action iteration of Gotham and, principally, the heroes who would replace the Bat. The trailer didn't reveal who's responsible for Batman's death, so there'll be a "whodunit" element to the CW series. Turner Haynes, Bruce Wayne's adopted son (not to be confused with Damian Wayne in the upcoming The Brave and The Bold), was also shown via the trailer. Haynes is a new character for the Gotham Knights show, so placing him front and center as the antagonist was a bold choice.

The reception to the trailer was mixed. While there is always a contingent of viewers happy that a new show based on Batman material is coming, there are others who felt what's been seen so far didn't live up to their expectations. The same was said when trailers arrived for Titans though that has gone on to have a sustained run over several seasons. Time will tell how well Gotham Knights meets any expectations, but the impressive cast and intriguing premise are promising.
