A recent job listing from Gotham Knights developer Warner Bros. Montreal has fans wondering once again if the studio is working on a AAA Superman title. There are several highly anticipated and very promising video games coming from DC Comics in the next few years, such as Rockstar’s Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, Shadow Of Mordor developer Monolith Studio’s Wonder Woman, and Warner Bros. Montreal’s own Gotham Knights. Gotham Knights serves as a sort of reboot to Rocksteady’s critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham series and will see players step into the roles of Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin (Tim Drake) as they rally together to defend Gotham City after the Dark Knight’s apparent death.

Recent social media posts and job listings dating as far back as the summer of 2021 ago have suggested that WB Montreal is working on a second DC-based video game in addition to Gotham Knights. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed which DC Comics superhero or team this game will be based on, fans are already speculating on what this mystery project from WB Montreal could be about. Some think that Robin’s involvement in Gotham Knights will lead to the young hero branching off into a standalone Teen Titans game, but others wonder if WB Montreal is making the triple-A Superman title that fans of the Man Of Steel have been hoping for.

GamesRadar reports that Warner Bros. Montreal recently posted a new job listing for a Senior Gameplay AI Programmer on the developer’s official website. While the exact project this new programmer will be working on wasn’t named, the job description makes mention of “a new AAA title,” leaving many to think that it is the same one mentioned in all of the past leaks and listings. Twitter user Faizan Shaikh, who first shared the WB Montreal job listing on his Twitter page, seems to think that this still-unnamed project is a triple-A Superman game, fueling further speculation on whether or not the Man Of Tomorrow is set to take flight in his own standalone title.

While Superman has made several successful appearances in games like NetherRealm’s Injustice series and Fortnite, the Man Of Steel’s solo gaming outings have left much to be desired from fans of the iconic hero. While there have been many attempts to translate Superman and his vast array of powers to gaming, the results have consisted of quickly forgotten titles like 2006’s Superman Returns tie-in game or the infamous Superman 64. Recently, a former developer at the defunct Factor 5 came forward with gameplay footage from a canceled game titled Superman: Blue Steel, an open-world title that would have focused on large-scale battles between Superman and legendary foes like Darkseid and Doomsday. Alas, Blue Steel was canceled due to financial issues at publisher Brash Entertainment in 2009, and the closest thing fans have had to a standalone Superman title since have been custom-built mods and fan demos made in Unreal Engine 5.

It is worth repeating that Warner Bros. Montreal hasn’t officially confirmed that its next game after Gotham Knights will be a Superman game, but fans have been looking forward to a new, standalone Superman title for quite some time. With Batman already spawning massive success with the Arkham series and Wonder Woman set to receive her own big game soon, the timing could be just right for the third member of DC Comic’s fabled trinity to finally take to the skies in a new triple-A action title.
