(UPDATE 8/23/2022: The release date for Gotham Knights has been changed to October 21st, 2022. The original story follows.)

As a lovable band of young (justice) heroes once proclaimed, today is the day! At long last, WB Games Montréal's Gotham Knights finally has an official release date, which will fall on October 25 of this year. The Batman: Arkham Origins developer originally announced its new non-Batman-starring title during DC Fandome 2020, confirming months upon months of rumors and speculation.

This particular Gotham City-set adventure will not take place in the same universe as Rocksteady Studios' award-winning Arkham series, however. Bruce Wayne/Batman is, apparently, no longer among the living, leaving the protection of Gotham in the hands of the Bat-Family - namely Barbara Gordon's Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Tim Drake's Robin. Of course, with the Bat out of the picture, the already sordid city descends further into chaos. And at the center of it all rests a secret society of puppeteers who seem to have escaped even the World's Greatest Detective's notice. Fortunately, fans don't have to wait too much longer to learn how it all plays out.

In a surprise post on its Twitter page, WB Games Montréal confirmed that Gotham Knights will hit stores for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series on October 25, 2022. It's exciting news, no doubt, but a quick look through the replies shows that some fans, such as sgtfelix360 and Callum Rooney, are miffed by the seeming delay, especially since many were anticipating an early 2022 release window for Gotham Knights. Meanwhile, others question whether or not the October date will hold firm, given the project's protracted development cycle and lengthy delay. Nevertheless, it seems the wait is at long last coming to an end. The release date announcement tweet reads as follows:

Gotham Knights' world premiere trailer from DC Fandome 2020 ended with a call for players to "Step Into the Knight" sometime in 2021. Early that year, however, WB Games and WB Games Montréal pushed the action title out of 2021 entirely, promising a nebulous 2022 launch window. For months, pundits and fans alike have pondered whether the game would receive yet another delay, despite WB's insistence that Gotham Knights would arrive sometime this year. It presently seems as though the publisher plans to honor that promise.

With Gotham Knights now scheduled to launch a week ahead of Halloween, one more major DC-branded title is in need of release details - Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. A Bloomberg report from February claimed the Arkhamverse-set adventure no longer boasts a 2022 launch window, though WB Games and Rocksteady Studios have yet to corroborate the alleged delay. Hopefully, official news on this front will soon see the light of day.
