A brand-new Gotham Knights gameplay showcase sheds light on the game's day-night cycle and epic supervillain events. The open-world superhero simulator will let players control Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and Red Hood as they defend Gotham alone or with a multiplayer partner. Recent Gotham Knights gameplay videos have delved into the title's combat system and RPG elements, and now a new showcase explains the game's open-world mechanics.

Developed by WB Games Montreal, Gotham Knights will let players become Gotham's newest defender following the untimely death of Batman. Each of the title's four playable characters will possess their own abilities and playstyles, with RPG elements letting players further tailor the experience with powers and gear. Red Hood is a close-range brawler with ranged weapons, for example, while Nightwing employs fast acrobatic melee attacks. The main story of Gotham Knights will involve the mysterious Court of Owls organization, but various other villains will also appear to wreak havoc on Gotham in the Dark Knight's absence. Gotham Knights will feature Harley Quinn as a boss, for example, and supervillain encounters will apparently leave a big mark on the city.

A new Gotham Knights gameplay video, posted to YouTube by IGN, reveals new details about the superhero simulator's open-world structure. The game will take place over many consecutive nights, now just one, with players returning to the Belfry hub during the day. This will make the world feel much more immersive, with stories playing out over the course of several nights. In-game crimes range from procedurally generated muggings to large-scale bank heists, and investigations can tip players off to crimes ahead of time. Gotham Knights will also boast massive Villain Night events, which will dominate a night and demand the player's attention by altering the game world.

Gotham Knights Is Building A Living, Breathing City

WB Games Montreal previously shed light on Gotham Knights' massive open-world map, which consists of five seperate boroughs each with their own distinct atmosphere, landmarks and criminal presence. The version of Gotham built for Gotham Knights is meant to reflect the city's history by basing each region on one of the city's founding families. The Arkham family first settled in North Gotham, for example, which means the iconic Arkham Asylum can be found in this section of the map. With its massive open-world map, Gotham Knights can give players endless opportunities to defend Gotham and improve their superhero gear.

With its day-night cycle and massive Villain Nights, Gotham Knights is shaping up to be even bigger than Batman: Arkham Knight. The game's systems will make players feel like a true Caped Crusader as they patrol the streets of Gotham, track criminal activity and mobilize to stop various supervillains. Even without Batman himself, Gotham Knights looks like a full-blown Gotham superhero simulator.
