Gotham Knights may have only recently released, but as players advance through the game, certain cells in Arkham Asylum seem to be hinting at potential DLC storylines and villains. Gotham Knights is set in a crime-ridden Gotham City where police are corrupt, after the deaths of James Gordon and Batman. The Gotham Knights team consists of four of Batman’s students - Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood - all of which are playable characters. Throughout the entirety of Gotham Knights, the four superheroes try to honor Batman by continuing to protect Gotham City and fight the evil forces trying to take over. Gotham City misses Batman, but that’s a good thing, because the story of Gotham Knights greatly benefits from emotional investment and the loss of Batman makes fighting the villains that much more satisfying.

[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Gotham Knights.] After a series of challenges and plot lines in Gotham Knights, the player will eventually find themselves in the ruins of the Arkham Asylum. Most of the cells, and the overall area, in Arkham Asylum are fairly sparse, as the main point of concern in this area is the discovery of Man-Bats. However, there are a few specific cells that players of Gotham Knight can explore that are obviously much more detailed than any others. Gotham Knights’ coolest DC easter eggs and secrets already hint at many different characters, but the Arkham Asylum cells specifically point out the villains Killer Croc, Jane Doe, and Professor Pyg. Putting such detail into these specific cells might be a teaser from developers that these super villains will be included in Gotham Knights DLC at some point in the future.

Gotham Knights Is Actually All About The Villains

Mr. Freeze, Harley Quinn, and Clayface from Gotham Knights.

As important as the superheroes, including the deceased Batman, are to Gotham City, the Gotham Knights video game is actually about the villains. Throughout the game, the 4 superheroes consistently run into trouble and come into conflict with the Court of Owls, the secret society of assassins (nicknamed Talons) gunning to take over Gotham City, and the League of Shadows, which is led by Talia al Ghul. Even though these are the primary sources of evil, the Court of Owls and League of Shadows don't even cover the roster of every villain in Gotham Knights. Of course, the game needs all of these villains, because without them there is no Gotham City to save. With how many villains there are to fight within the base game of Gotham Knights, the possibility that Arkham Asylum could be hinting at even more villains in DLC is quite enticing.

Interestingly enough, it is actually Talia who leads the Knights to Arkham Asylum, where she goes on her quest to lead the League of Shadows in their quest to take over Gotham City. Once the player can freely explore the area, it is quite noticeable how lacking other cells are in comparison to those of Killer Croc, Jane Doe, and Professor Pyg, whose cells are opened and actually commented on by the Knights. After the ending of Gotham Knights, these details seem too important to ignore. While the official story in-game is that these villains are in Blackgate, the fact that they are referenced could be teasing their inclusion in potential DLC.

Gotham Knights ventures into new territory by tackling Gotham City with playable characters other than Batman himself. Throughout the entire game, it’s the villains that give the Knights their purpose, fighting crime and trying to save Gotham City from a terrible fate, all while dealing with the emotional intensities that come with grieving Batman. Developed by WB Games Montréal, Gotham Knights manages to successfully create a new way to experience the iconic locale that is Gotham City. There have even been exclusive DLC items in The Gilded City comic released to promote the game, which also prompts the speculation of further DLC. If that’s the case, then it’s even more reasonable that Arkham Asylum is hinting at more villains for Gotham Knights.
