While Georgina Sparks hasn't shown up on HBO Max's Gossip Girl, her son Milo did make a surprise cameo, setting up the possibility of future references and connections to the original series. Even though the new Gossip Girl is referred to as a "reboot," the HBO Max drama is very much a sequel to The CW show. Despite not featuring characters like Serena, Blair, or Dan, the new story still occurs in the same universe, but just almost a decade later after Gossip Girl season 6. The series premiere even referenced Dan's history as the infamous anonymous blogger, inspiring the teachers to revive the Gossip Girl identity under a new Instagram account that follows the next generation of Constance students.
Despite sharing continuity, Gossip Girl season 1 has so far been light on making references or using characters from the original project. It allows Gossip Girl's new cast of characters to stand on their own and not have to share (or lose) the spotlight to the original gang. If past Gossip Girl cast members were immediately involved with the sequel, the newer characters would become side players in their own show. While Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, or Blake Lively may not necessarily be making any guest appearances any time soon, HBO Max's Gossip Girl re-introduced an unexpected player from The CW drama. During the fourth episode, titled "Fire Walks with Z," a young kid named Milo (played by Azhy Robertson) offers to help Zoya with her troubles. While Zoya is confused about the boy's interest in her problems, he introduces himself as "Milo Sparks," which becomes Gossip Girl's first major tie to the original series, as he is Georgina's son.
Similar to Georgina (played by Michelle Trachtenberg,) Milo followed his mother's villainous footsteps years after the original series ended. Despite being only ten years old, Gossip Girl episode 4 establishes that he's a highly intelligent kid, including the fact he attends the 8th grade. Since Milo brought up how he tends not to throw around the Sparks name often, Georgina's reputation seemingly worsened after Gossip Girl season 6. Georgina was shown through photos and referenced by Milo as he explained that she taught him some of her schemes when he was younger. If Milo appears again in Gossip Girl season 1, he may provide more updates on what Georgina and even other characters have been up to in the last few years.
Even though it makes sense for Trachtenberg's character not to be involved with the new gang, that's what made Milos' re-introduction so good. While she served as one of Gossip Girl's recurring villains, Georgina was one of the strongest characters whenever she popped up for multiple episodes in the original series. In the end, Gossip Girl will always need a Georgina-like figure to shake things up, and who is better to continue her legacy with the new gang than Milo, her own flesh and blood. Since Milo was quickly forgotten after Gossip Girl season 3, seeing the sequel series feature him in this kind of capacity was a pleasant surprise. Robertson's casting also made Milo's return enjoyable as he played a scheming villain really well despite being so young.
What's also promising about Milo's new role is how it paved the way for other kids of the original cast to potentially pop up at some point in the Gossip Girl sequel. By the time Gossip Girl ended in 2012, Chuck and Blair were the only couple with a kid as their son Henry appeared in the series finale's flashforward. Since the final scene took place in 2017, Henry would be at least nine or ten years old today, similar to Milo. If Gossip Girl could add one offspring who is wise beyond his years, there's no reason why the writers couldn't bring in Henry. It'd actually make sense if Chuck and Blair raised Henry to be mature and disciplined at an early age too. As Gossip Girl season 1 continues, it'll be intriguing to see if Milo's re-emergence leads to Georgina Sparks showing up in the future.
