With a magnetic roster of characters to play favorites with, the rebooted Gossip Girl has blessed fans of the original and new viewers alike with something new to obsess over. The show has really taken off with brand new twists, a more diverse cast, and more responsible scandals, if that could be possible. And with the promise of original cast cameos by Joshua Safran, fans can't wait for the rest of the season to return in November.
It is but natural to compare the refreshing new characters of GG like Julien, Zoya, Aki, Max, Audrey and more with the other celestial sensation that people love to ponder over— astrology. These teens and their parents have some distinct traits that align beautifully with the stars and zodiac signs.
Aries: Monet de Haan
Fiery and audacious, Monet follows the "every woman for herself" policy, just like Aries are known to do. She's direct and uncomplicated, and her desire to be number one trumps everything else. She would give up anything, even her friends, to stay ahead in life.
Her quick temperament leads to dramatic outbursts, a lot like the first sign of the zodiac, but her creative brilliance and ambition make up for her bold personality and the damage it tends to cause.
Taurus: Helena Bergmann
Taureans are connoisseurs of beauty, art, love, and money, and so is Obie's mother Helena. When this former supermodel isn't brokering mammoth real estate deals, she can be found at a salon pampering herself, or enjoying a fine dinner with her loved ones.
She works very hard to earn these comforts and luxuries. The German isn't afraid to get her hands dirty in the business, and play the long game to get bigger returns on her real estate venture as well as in life.
Gemini: Max Wolfe
The social butterflies of astrology, Geminis can be found flitting between the most happening parties, the newest clubs, and trying out the trendiest experiences. If that doesn't describe the life of Max Wolfe, little else does. Witty yet intellectual, Max can talk to anybody about anything, and his presence livens up any soiree considerably.
His progressive thoughts fall perfectly in line with the celestial twins, and his ability to take things in his stride and move on is admirable. Max's playfulness and innovation reflects in his brilliant sartorial sense, and the tantalizing love triangle he's entangled within in Gossip Girl.
Cancer: Akeno "Aki" Menzies
Gentle and caring, the quiet skater boy of the group of elites matches the qualities of Cancer, undoubtedly. This sign is known to be intuitive and scope out the energy in a room, which Akeno does regularly; he was sensitive to Kiki's mental state during the fundraiser, and tried to warn Audrey of her ill health long before she ended up in hospital.
He instinctively takes care of Audrey, her mother, and even Max, which is a natural tendency of this water sign. Aki also is a safe space for his friends to come to and discuss issues, especially Obie.
Leo: Julien Calloway
The star of the the show, Julien lives for the applause. The spotlight is her natural habitat, and she revels in the attention and social status she gets by being a popular influencer on Instagram in Gossip Girl. Leos, too, love to be the star attraction in any given place, and these divas adore designer wear, exclusive soirees, and all things shiny.
JC may be a queen, but she also goes to all lengths to cultivate her friendships, especially her relationship with Zoya. This loyalty and passion makes up for the jealousy that she sometimes harbors for her, just like Leo does.
Virgo: Kate Keller
If a single word could describe Virgos, it would be perfection. Perfection is what Kate sought all her life, when she tried to sing, act, and write, and it somehow always evaded her until she found her forte in being Gossip Girl. Her role makes her an unlikable character, but it's worth noting just how organized and systematic the teacher is with her GG schedule, much like the earth sign.
In her own twisted way, she tries to be a supportive and caring friend to Zoya, and this goodness crept in when she decided to break things off with Nick so she couldn't leak the information he discussed with her in private.
Libra: Audrey Hope
This teenager doesn't quite belong to this era — she surrounds herself with old world Hollywood glamour, classic novels, exquisite art, and beautiful clothes. This trait is quintessentially Libran, and Audrey strives to keep balance and harmony in all facets of her life like the sign.
She enjoys being coupled up with a stylish partner, which she found early on in Aki. Despite her difficult home life, Audrey can be effortlessly charming and beautiful, which tracks with the scales of the zodiac. It's easy to see why she's regarded as one of the best characters on Gossip Girl.
Scorpio: Rafa Caparros
This teacher was nothing like your conventional ones, but then none on Gossip Girl seem to be. His social status is better than his peers, so he tends to run in the same elite circles as his students. Rafa is a mysterious and sensual man who is known for his sexual prowess, just like Scorpios.
His seductive nature can quickly become bitter and biting if somebody threatens his existence, like it did when Max told him he would expose his escapades with students to the world. Rafa can become destructive when triggered, much like the venomous Scorpio.
Sagittarius: Zoya Lott
Sharp tongued and blunt, Zoya can sometimes come off as arrogant when speaking in a crowd. However, it's only her intellectual prowess and her thirst for knowledge which makes her a bit of an expert in a range of topics, not limited to literature, human rights, socialism, and a bit of law, which she gets from her father.
The younger daughter of Marion likes to educate herself and be firmly opinionated in matters of the world, which is a lot like Sagittarius. In Zoya, there is deep desire to bring about change, which she does by living her values, attending protests, and speaking up in any situation that she can.
Capricorn: Davis Calloway
Capricorns are the workaholics of the astrological zodiac, and nobody embodies this quality better than Davis Calloway in Gossip Girl. Julien's father is an overachiever, with five Grammys to his credit and counting, and his work keeps him away from his daughter and his home on most days.
He's also a a private person, keeping his months-long relationship with Lola a secret from even Julien. Capricorns are known to be tough nuts to crack, and unless one gets to know them, they keep their lives and emotions under wraps.
Aquarius: Otto "Obie" Bergmann IV
Being born in the lap of luxury didn't dissuade Obie from his firm belief that the power should lie with the public, and not a select few wealthy people like his parents. He thinks like a revolutionary, and he finally stepped up to the mantle by participating wholly in the Navy Yard protests, unlike the performative activism he had been doing earlier.
Just like Aquarius, Obie doesn't believe in traditional structures of power, and he eschews archaic forms of living quickly, even if it affects him. He can also be fickle and moody like the air sign, which led him to unfairly juggle between Zoya and Julien.
Pisces: Luna La
The Mexican teenager might be catty at first, but her emotions and innate tenderness tend to make an appearance eventually, much like Pisces. Luna is a well of creativity and imagination, which reflects in her impeccable styling of Julien. She also loves a dose of whimsy and fantasy, which is visible in her own soft and girly way of dressing.
In true Piscean fashion, Luna is also very adaptable and flexible, automatically bending her ways to include JC's newfound social strategy and her half-sister Zoya when the time came. She can be quite empathetic like the astrological fish.
