In the premiere episode of his new TV show, Next Level Chef, it was revealed that world-famous chef Gordon Ramsay doesn’t know what Twitch is. Ramsay has become well known for his aggressive management style and liberal use of vulgar language, especially on shows like Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares. The talented chef is very popular on the internet in the form of memes, making it a surprise that Ramsay hasn’t heard of one of the internet’s top streaming platforms out there.
Next Level Chef, Ramsay’s new reality competition show, has him touring the country with the goal of finding the next culinary superstar. Alongside the show’s two other judges, Nyesha Arrington and Richard Blais, Ramsay brings on chefs from all walks of life, from social media stars to food truck owners. Twitch is known for video games, such as its most-watched game this year, Grand Theft Auto V, but the platform has expanded in recent years beyond just gaming. With how massive Twitch has become in recent years, and a notable increase in cooking streams, it’s interesting that the platform hasn’t at least come across Ramsay’s radar, especially if the show is searching far and wide for talented chefs.
Originally reported by ComicBook.com, after one of the contestants, Tricia Wang, Triciaisabirdy on Twitch, explained what she did for a living, Ramsay’s response was simply “what the f**k is Twitch?” Yesterday Ramsay tweeted at the official Twitch account, looking for an explanation on what it is. Ramsay clearly has a good sense of humor about the whole situation, as his Twitter bio now explains that he is “always near food...doesn’t know what Twitch is.”
Many popular streamers have come out of the woodwork on Twitter, offering Ramsay the opportunity to collaborate on a cooking stream with them. One of Twitch's most popular streamers, xQc, sounded off. Ramsay’s popularity for his hilariously over-the-top and poignant outbursts cannot be overstated when it comes to the internet, and especially Twitch. Popular streamer Pokimane even shared that she has a cardboard cutout of the chef that often appears on her stream. Another popular streamer, HasanAbi, might have put it best by simply saying that Twitch is simply “a platform where we watch you every day.”
While Ramsay has yet to make any appearances or announcements regarding Twitch, the possibility is greater than ever. At the very least he is now much more aware of the platform than he was before, and that could be a huge step forward for cooking streamers more specifically, but also Twitch in general. The platform is constantly growing, with recent news of Xbox's Twitch streaming integration becoming available to insiders, it's only a matter of time before Twitch finds its way into the mainstream. If Ramsay does decide to stream on Twitch at some point, it will be interesting to see what he decides to do and how he adapts to the format.
