An R-rated fan-made version of Goosebumps: The Haunted Mask has just been released on YouTube. R.L. Stine started the Goosebumps book series in 1992. The original run went through to 1997, although a spin-off series went from 1994-2000 and was reignited in 2008, which continues to this day. The children's horror books typically follow kids as the protagonists, who encounter supernatural dangers. Goosebumps has spawned films, video games, television series, and more.

The Haunted Mask is the eleventh entry in the original book series, which was released in 1993. The story follows Carly Beth after she goes to a store to purchase a Halloween mask. However, when she puts on the creepy mask, her behavior starts to change and the mask has become a part of her and won't come off. This entry of the Goosebumps series was adapted on television and released on VHS in 1996. The story went on to spawn three sequels, which are titled The Haunted Mask IIThe Scream of the Haunted Mask, and Wanted: The Haunted Mask. The universe has continued in the form of a comic series.

Oddest of the Odd posted a short film re-imagining of the story, which they renamed to The Haunted Mask: A Goosebumps Story. The story is written and directed by Courtlan Gordon and follows Carly Beth Caldwell (Abby Rzepka) and Chuck Caldwell (Josh Somerville), who were left real estate after their parents passed away. When they find a basement full of Halloween masks and a box with the words "The Unloved Ones" written on it, things take a turn for the worst. Due to the R-rated nature of the content, it will have to be watched directly on YouTube through the link below.

Their YouTube channel has over 45,000 subscribers at the time of writing, as they have been providing short-form horror content over the past five years. They have made everything from animated content, parodies, to more serious fan-made horror trailers and films based on existing properties. For example, the Halloween fan-made film they were involved in drew some attention from the horror community. They surely aren't afraid to really go all the way with the gore and guts.

The Haunted Mask is a fun short-film that brings back the nostalgia of the original Goosebumps story, even if it's a much more graphic re-imagining. The prop mask created certainly does a good job of capturing the original mask, while providing it with more of an intimidating visual update. While it feels very much like a fan-made short-film, it's still an entertaining 15 minutes that's worth checking out for those who are curious to see an R-rated version of the story. The video ends with an announcement that a new Indiegogo campaign will be coming in the future to support their next project. Additionally, there's more Goosebumps content to come in the future.
