Fan-favorite Goosebumps author R.L. Stine has hinted that fans can expect more of his books to make their way onto screens following the release of Just Beyond on Disney+. Stine, who has often been referred to as “the Stephen King of children’s literature,” has been responsible for writing hundreds of best-selling horror novels aimed at both teenagers and younger readers alike. Best known for his Goosebumps and Fear Street series, the author penned his first horror novel Blind Date in 1986 and has since gone on to sell over 400 million copies of his works worldwide.

Earlier this year, Stine confirmed that a planned live-action TV adaptation of his Goosebumps series had secured a new director, and Disney+ is also releasing an anthology show based on his Just Beyond graphic novel this month. In addition to both of these projects, Netflix also enjoyed enormous success with a three-part film adaptation of Stine’s Fear Street series when they were released throughout June and July this year. Earning rave reviews and many calls for a series continuation, Fear Street director Leigh Janiak has confirmed that she already has ideas for future films if given the green light.

Most recently Stine spoke with Comicbook about the planned Goosebumps TV series and what other projects he has on the horizon. While he was unable to provide any new information about the Goosebumps series, he suggested that there were “some other projects in the works.” He also emphasised the planned adaptation of his The Babysitter series that was previously announced last year. Check out his comments below:

"I have no updates on [the new Goosebumps series]. I have none. There's some other projects in the works, one based on the teen novels that I did called 'The Babysitter.' There were four books and I think those are in production for television. We keep moving, we just keep going and see what happens. But no, I'm sorry, I don't have any more updates on the other [Goosebumps] show."

RL Stine The Babysitter

Based on a series of four books, the first of which was originally published in 1989, The Babysitter series follows the story of Jenny Jeffers, a 16-year-old babysitter who finds herself being targeted by a deranged killer. This new series is currently being developed by Lookout Entertainment in collaboration Chernin Entertainment, the production house behind the Planet of the Apes trilogy. With the original books aimed at a Young Adult audience, this particular adaptation will likely be a little more graphic than Disney’s Just Beyond series.

With millions of kids having grown up devouring Stine’s chilling works worldwide, it seems only natural that more and more of his books will end up being adapted into films or television series. While it is disappointing the author was unable to provide any further updates about work on the Goosebumps series, word of continuing work on The Babysitter series is sure to entice his most avid readers. In the meantime, Just Beyond will be sure to tide them over until his next adaptation reaches screens.
