Google Stadia is an undeniably masterful idea on paper. Given the success of video streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu, it makes sense for gaming to move in a similar direction. Despite this, opinions on Google's new gaming streaming service have been somewhat mixed. The accessibility of such a transformative idea is very apparent, but the execution still leaves much to be desired. Despite this, Google held a Stadia Connect recently on YouTube in which they unveiled many new games that would come to the platform. The games shown in this presentation may be slightly shocking.

The presentation begins by noting that players will be available to stream popular upcoming games on Stadia from the second they launch. Some of these games include the new Assassins Creed Valhalla and the much anticipated Cyberpunk 2077However, as the presentation moves forward, there is a clear focus on releasing older games on the Stadia platform. Some of these titles include Borderlands 3, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Dead By Daylight.

Interestingly, Google has decided that instead of working on new properties and building up new franchises, they would rather apply well-known series' to their platform. Overall, this isn't a bad idea in the slightest. Right now, the idea of a streaming-based gaming platform is still a new and developing notion. Building up trust between the platform and the consumer should be a top priority in these early stages of development.

Google Stadia's Plan Long Term

It seems that in order for Stadia to appeal to the current gaming demographic, giving them an already well-established library may be a good start. While none of these titles are necessarily "new" they are of incredibly high quality. Games like Sekiro have already received high scores from critics while others, like Cyberpunk 2077, have been circulating in player's minds even before the games actual release. Although this focus on "playing it safe" may seem somewhat concerning to some player, it does at least provide comfort in giving Stadia the fair shot it deserves. Despite this, Google has announced a partnership with Harmonix and Supermassive Games in the years to come. The thought of a new music rhythm game or Until Dawn-inspired project for the young platform is undeniably exciting.

While some players may find themselves unsatisfied with this line up of titles, this does feel like a smart move for in the long run. Google Stadia is still a developing platform based upon a never before explored idea. While it may take time for the project to reach the heights it's truly capable of, satiating player's taste buds with familiar but effective dishes sound like a smart move in the long run.
